use of Aquaphor

Noah was over a week late when he was born so he has really dry skin all over his body.  Can I use Aquaphor on his hands?

Re: use of Aquaphor

  • DD had dry peely skin after a few days too.  Pedi said to not use lotion.  It fell off after a few days.

My Pedi told me to use baby oil on his body, but don't put it on his hands.  I'm reading the label for this lotion and it says you can even use it on the lips.

  • I'm sure you can - it is for dry skin.  I use it on DD's cheeks when they get wind-chapped.

  • I would think you could if you wanted... I used to use it on my lips...However... McClain was 1week and two days late.  His hands were really dry and SO peely but he moved them all over and I didn't want him sucking on lotion and/or getting in his eyes.  So, mostly I put lotion on everything but his hands and face.  Which, wasn't recommended by the pedi. Sometimes if he was napping (which wasn't often) I would put some on his hands to soak in while he slept.

Pretty quickly his hands cleared up by themselves.  I started using a humidifier (which isn't recommended for me b/c of allergies but hey! whats a girl gonna do).  That really helped.  They rehydrate quickly once they start eating regularly.

Also, I lotion regularly now!  he got eczema on his face and cradle cap so he gets Avenno and eucerin lotion on his face and head twice a day.  Still his hands have been fine after the initial peel.  Good luck, I hated trying to decide which was worse the lotion or the peeling.

Yes baby oil actually does work.
  • I work for a Dermatologist and we recommend Aquaphor ALL the time.  It is very pure so it doesn't cause any problems.  We tell people to use it for wound care and stuff too instead of Neosporin. Neosporin is well known to cause an allergic reaction after continued use.  You can use it in  the diaper arrea instead of A&D or Desitin too.
  • dd has incredibly dry skin and after only 2 applications it has helped significantly. I don't put it on her hands because they're constatnly in her mouth. I also use it for diaper rash.
