I swear I am really trying to count carbs and be within the #'s recommended by the dietician. I know I am most of the time when I eat like a Lean Cuisine meal for lunch, but my numbers are all over the place (sometimes I make the #'s and sometimes I don't). I always hit my fasting, and the 2 hr after breakfast tests but lunch and dinner are not working for me.
My diet is:
45 carbs for breakfast, 30 for snack, 60 for lunch, 30 for snack, 45 for dinner and 30 for snack.
I should be within 70-120 when I take my blood sugar. Today my blood sugar was 166 2 hours after lunch and I KNOW I only had 53 carbs. I am so frustrated right now. I have only been on the diet for 11 days.
Re: I am failing w/my GD. :(
Oooo totally jealous of your carb allowances! I only get 15 at b-fast it is KILLING ME!
I agree with pp try switching the type and maybe eating something different for lunch...more protein maybe???? Also the walking in place does help! sorry you are frustrated!!!!! GL!
I only have 30 minutes for lunch and go home so I can rest, but I will try walking in place for 5 minutes after both lunch and dinner and see if that helps the situation. I was told I shouldn't walk for more than 10 minutes a day due to having twins. Thanks for the suggestion. I really hope it helps.
I agree with PP that it is most likely the make-up of the carbs you are eating. Try eating a smaller amount of carbs that come from starches.
This is the formula that my doctor has me on:
Breakfast (2 starches max): 26-30 gm Carbs max
Snack (1 starch max): 22.5 Carbs Max (12-15 gm max from starches)
Lunch (2 starches max): 60 Carbs Max (26-30 gm max from starches)
Snack (1 starch max): 22.5 Carbs Max (12-15 gm max from starches)
Dinner (2 starches max): 60 Carbs Max (26-30 gm max from starches)
Snack (1 starch max): 30 Carbs Max (12-15 gm max from starches)
After the carbs from starches, I make up the difference in vegetables and/or milk.
Good luck!
FIrst off all, how long have you been eating your GD diet? It can take a few days for your body to regulate. If it's been a week or more...then I'd check the quality of carbs you're eating as well as what else you're eating with them (it's best to always include protein and some fat along with the carbs). By quality, I mean high fiber/complex carbs versus simple carbs. So a whole apple will be processed differently than a glass of apple juice. A sweet potato will affect you differently than white rice.
Also incorporating some movement/exercise into your daily routine can greatly help the numbers,
If none of that helps, I'd check with your doctor...you might need to lower your higher carb meals.

To be honest, my dietician had me on a diet that would have made my sugar high constantly and I would still be hungry. My OB recommended eating more protein when I would still be hungry. In the end I ended up just figuring out how many carbs I could have and how much protein to balance that out with. If I felt I had more carbs than I should have I would balance it out with extra protein/fat.
