2nd Trimester

Acne - when did yours clear?

Sorry if this is super vain, but I cannot get my acne under control... I look like a teenager and my pimples weren't even this bad when I was a teenager!  Normally I wouldn't care, but next week I'm going with DH on a business trip and will be around his work people & wives and just wish I could do something to improve my skin.

When did your acne clear?  My dr said I should get better around week 20 and refused to prescribe anything for it.  I've tried Cetaphil and Belli Facial Wash, as well as salt water and lemon juice.

I know I have to let it go and it's all for a good cause, but I want to know what other people's experiences have been.  What did you use that helped and when did yours clear up???

Thanks!

  • Still waiting.  Make up just isn't enough these days.  Blech.
  • While I haven't found anything that works, and I'm tired of wasting money on face wash or moisturizers so I give up, I just wanted to say I know how you feel! Mine cleared for the most part over Christmas and I was sooo happy. But then it came back - and I could tell that my belly grew a little. A girl at work said when there is a surge in hormones, it can flare up after being cleared. I don't know if this is valid, but hopefully hormones even out here soon for us. Oh and then someone else said, it's because you're having a girl. OWTs are just the best.

  • Mine has cleared up in the past few weeks - thank God! I use Alba pineapple scrub 1x daily and the JustTomato face wash 1x w/the lotion that goes with it - both are organic and it seems to have done the trick:)
  • The stuff on my chest and back started to clear around 16 weeks.  My face still flares up from time to time.  It is still a huge improvement from my first trimester.

*Edit* I also use Yes to Tomatoes from Walgreens - the face and body wash.  It definitely helped, but didn't take it all away.  I also dab tea tree oil on existing pimples to clear them up faster. HTH...

  • a few weeks ago but I also switched soaps around that time. I was using noxzema and switched to DHCs pure soap. I figured the less chemicals the better because nothing else was working.

with DS I had clear skin from 12 weeks on, so it was getting frustrated this time. I felt like a teenager.

    This!

Mine is taking twice as long to clear up then it use to as well! Angry

  • I use Noxema. It still comes and goes in spurts. Luckily right now i'm pretty clear except for a few breakouts. It really got bad for awhile. I'm hoping it doesn't come back.

  • I have used clearasil for years then after BFP my face broke out like no other! After talking with my Dr. I switched to Neutrogena liquid clenser and cleared up after 2 weeks that was right around 17 or 18 weeks.
  • Mine got really bad over the past week. I truly didn't think it was possible but it definitely happened. I've ceased wearing makeup to give my skin a break (I work at home), started using honey instead of my regular face wash and started using apple cider vinegar as a toner. It has helped immensely, thank goodness. So much so that I'll likely continue my routine and only put makeup on when I have to make an appearance somewhere :)
  • All I have used for about the past 8 weeks is Dove bar soap and my skin has been great :)

Me too.  I think mine is actually worse that it was when I was a teenager because I have the awful under the skin ones that are impossible to cover and I've got pimples well beyond the t-zone.  My cheeks and jaw bone are the WORST.

  • Mine sucks. Last time it also sucked, pretty much the whole time I think. Maybe it wasn't so bad third tri.

  • Ugh....I KNOW!!!

I thought was was doing better, because it looked good from about week 20-now. But as of yesterday I have broken out with painful little hormone zits all over my left cheek and jawline :( I have a big night Saturday, so I'm hoping I look better by tomorrow. Wishful thinking!?!?

I've been using the Cetaphil wash, AND moisturizer which really helped even out my skin tone and make my make-up look better. Then spot treating.

  • my skin broke out at the beginning of the pregnancy and cleared up a couple weeks ago.
  • I have acne from my chin to my belly...for some reason, nothing on my face, but my chest/back/boobs are terrible.  I started using tea tree oil and that seems to be helping to dry them up a bit.  I feel your pain!
  • My NP prescribed me Clindamyacin and that helped (I had cysts). They are pretty much gone, but now I have a rash all around my chin and mouth. I think it's perioral dermatitis. I emailed my NP to see if there's anything I can do for it. It's itchy. :(

  • I am still waiting.

I think I had acne all throughout both of my previous pregnancies :(

  • I never had it with my 1st preg but this time around it was horrible, big green zits that came one right after the other and then at 15 weeks it turned cystic.

I was about 21 weeks when I ordered something from Ulta.com and with it got a very small free sample of Dermalogica Active Moist lotion, and my skin totally cleared within a week.  When I ran out of it, I got zits again immediately, so I guess there was something to it.  I went out and got the face wash, scrub, lotion, toner and mask for normal to oily skin (because my skin was getting very greasy too).  The only downer is that it's HELLA expensive (like $30+ PER product!) but my skin is now RADIANTLY clear, it looks better than it did before I got pregnant!  It has NO anti-acne ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, etc...but  it really agrees with my skin!  They do make an "adult acne" line too....you can get any of the starter kits for about $40 at Ulta.

Mine is horrible, and I have not faith that it will get better anytime soon.  My dermatologist perscribed a topical clindamycin also (name brand Evoclin) as well as a cream called Finacea that is used to treat rosacea - but I guess can sometimes help with acne?  Anyway, my OB said that both are fine.  I've always had t-zone acne, but this is the first time that it has been around the outside of my face.  I hear that is more typical if is is hormonal acne, though.

I can't decide what to do with face wash - I think my skin is mad at me.  I really like the regular cetaphil, but I accidently bought sensitive skin cetaphil.  I don't like the sensitive kind as much at all (it doesn't remove makeup well).  So, to remove makeup, I have been using Clean and Clear cleansing cream (or something like that).
