Update from post the other day - possibility of neural tube defect

I posted the other day that I had a call from my doctor on Monday night about some of my blood work. It came back high risk for an open neural tube defect, and I was scheduled for an u/s at the children's hospital. This could have meant many things, including spina bifida and worse, the baby nor suriving to birth, or after.

I am happy to report that after my u/s today, the baby does not have a neural tube defect. The spine and brain and fine, and the baby looks normal. They narrowed down the reason I had such high levels on the blood test to 2 things: 1) I seem to have a large placenta, which could allow more things to cross it from the baby and show up in my blood work, 2) the baby could have a small opening in it's abdomen.

They couldn't get a good shot of abdomen to rule this out (LO was not cooperating!), so we go back in 2 weeks for another u/s and hopefully LO will be in a better position then. But they confirmed that all of the organs were inside the body, so I'm assuming any opening (if there is) is small and probably not too much of a problem.

I want to thank you all for your T&P from my post the other day. They were very much appreciated! I feel so much relief after such a stressful week.

GL to all of you with your LO's!
