PT Q- is it normal to still be having accidents?

DD has been potty trained for almost a month. We started her on Xmas eve. The last few days she's been having tonnes of accidents. yesterday was 3, the day before was 4 accidents. She is 25 months old right now.

Is this normal? My older only had the occasional accident once she was PT'd. She was 28 months when we did it so maybe those extra few months make a big difference?

  • Sounds like she's not ready to p/t.

Even though she went a week without an accident prior to this? Should we putpull-ups back on her?

  • I really don't have any advice other than maybe put her back in pull-ups and revisit it in a couple of months, if she's having that many accidents. kwim?

I'm certainly not an expert...my DD turned 3 yesterday and still isn't PT. ;) but your DD also sounds pretty young so I wouldn't force it (not that you are).

    good luck!

  • It's pretty normal for newly P/T child to still be having accidents. Just make sure you ask her/ take her to the potty more often. Sometimes kids forget that they have to go when they are busy playing. Putting her back in pull ups would just confuse her.

  • This happened to DS.  It was like going potty became so natural he "forgot" about it again.  Had 2-3 accidents in a few days. we got back on the wagon giving stickers and reminding him.

It took about 2 days and he was straightened out.

personally I would not go back to pull ups.  it is confusing and going backwards rather than forwards.

  • I think it's normal.  they learn how to hold it longer, but don't know how long is too long.  combine that with a little independence and they don't want to go when you want them too and it's fun times!  Have her help you clean up and point out how much longer it took to clean up an accident vs. go when you have to go.
