Bleeding/Diaper rash

I changed a dirty diaper on DS tonight and his bottom was red and bleeding in a few spots. He doesn't have a rash, but the skin was bright red. What should I put on it- Vaseline? Aquaphor? The wipes hurt him, so should I go to water on a washcloth? Do I need to be worried about what caused it?

Re: Bleeding/Diaper rash

  • DS will get that when he had a poopy for too long.  Dr Smith's usually clears it right up for us within 24 hours.  Aquaphor is more of a preventative.  You can get Dr Smiths at Walmart and HEB.

OH and I use sensitive wipes when he gets red.

  • Ugh, I hit post too early...

I wouldn't be worried about it unless it continues.  DS can get red sitting in a dirty diaper for less than 10 minutes.  You can try to air it out too, but that's dangerous.  ;)  Dr Smith's, all the way.  That stuff is so awesome.  Our pedi recommended it.  DS had the shiits for 3 weeks and she was so impressed he didn't have any rash to speak of.

  • That has happened to us, too.  Don't use wipes for a while, just rinse his hiney with soap and water.  Let him run around naked as much as possible. Fresh air really helps it heal. I swear by Desitin, too.  It's the only stuff that works for us.
  • I like little twig diaper cream, and when it's red like that the clifford wipes at heb are best for us. even the sensitive ones hurt him. if we are home I jsut use a warm wash cloth.

    ditto nakedness.

  • dd had that once and it made me cry to see her in sooo much pain and very little I could do to clear it up immediately. I'm so sorry you are in the same situation as I once was...

We are TRUE fans of Dr. Smiths! We chose to use warm wash cloths for cleaning and our pedi recommended that we give her two baths a day (which I think did the most good). Naked time is always good if you can risk it.

  • Well, I have another product rec for you: Triple Paste. I've tried every brand on the market and this is the only one that works and works fast! It's available at BRU and CVS.
  • Thanks, everyone. I have dr. Smiths at home, so I'll try that. I was worried it would hurt him, so I'm glad y'all said it helps. And we have tile floors, so we can handle naked time :)
  • Just keep an eye on it & if it doesn't get better in a day or two, take him to the Pedi.  DS had a red bleeding butt (kind of like blisters) once & it ended up being a yeast rash & we needed a prescription to get rid of it.  Hopefully the Dr. Smiths works & he gets better soon!
  • I don't have anything to add about what to put on your sweet DS' bootie, but could it be something he ate?

Something too acidic? Pineapple does mean things to K1's little tush.

    Hope he feels better!
