NBR: Single process color...

For the ladies that only have their hair colored all over...no highlights.  Do you get a single process color from a salon or do it yourself at home?  If you do it yourself what do you use?  I'm tired of spending two plus hours at the hair salon for cut, color, highlights and am leaning towards just doing color all over from here on out to save time and money.  I'm thinking of going all over blonde.  I was a much lighter color blonde with highlights before getting pregnant so it wouldn't be a huge change.

TIA :)

  • Last time I got mine done in a salon, 'cause I am lazy, and it was a gift... but normally I do mine myself. I am a fan of Garnier's color, because it tends to be very moisturizing. And the Revlon 10 color lasts a long time. :)

  • I'm a brunette but I like nice and easy when I get it from the store... but my MIL is a hairdresser and I have been lazy and letting my roots show, so she has been bringing color home and doing it for me... which is really nice!!

  • If you are going blonde I would recommend just going to the salon. It's much cheaper to have to professionals do it and get it right than doing yourself, messing it up and paying to have them fix it. Just say no to box color!

This blonde is iffy. I dye my own hair but only dark brown or red.

    This!!! 1,000,000% this!!!

As an ex-Salon Director, I can't tell you how many at home blondes we get to fix in the salon. Blonde can be tough even for the pros. Most at home color kits are formulated to "turn off" at a certain point which for most people who use them is just where their hair is a nice brassy orange color -- not platinum or sunkissed like they were going for. Also, by the time you bleach at home and then go to the salon to get it fixed, your hair could be too damaged to fix.

If you're going blonde and you don't want to look like you did it yourself, go see a professional. I'm not trying to be snarky  -- I'm just trying to save you some time, money and frustration.

If you're going darker, I'd say go for it, but stick to one or two shades from your natural color. And if you currently have regrowth, apply it there first, let it process for 15 minutes or so and then pull it through to the ends for the remaining 15 minutes. The ends pull color much faster and can end up being much darker than the roots -- also a dead give away that you did your hair at home. *gasp!* :-)

  • As a hairdresser i would say go to the nearest salon! blonde can be tricky at home esp. if your hair is prelightened from high lights/old color.  If you do it yourself you will be paying for the color you buy and then the cost of corrective color at the salon.
  • I've spent so much money over the years having professional stylists fix my screwed up attempts to dye my own hair.  So in the end it's usually cheaper to just go straight to the salon and relax & read a magazine while someone else does it.
