High-Risk Pregnancy

Care package for friend on bed rest ...

Do any of you have any suggestions of things I could put in a care package for a friend who's on bed rest? She's been on for a few weeks b/c of some bleeding, but now they're saying it may be for the rest of her pregnancy, and she's only about 15-16 weeks now. :(

I want to do something for her but not sure what. Any suggestions other than the obvious books, DVDs, etc?

Thanks -- and those of you who are on bed rest right now, hope you're staying sane and you and your LO are doing well.

Re: Care package for friend on bed rest ...

  • Is she on bedrest at home or in the hospital? I would suggest (esp. if she is in the hospital) some yummy snacks/treats, some puzzle books (like sudoku or word searches, crosswords, brain teasers, etc.), my mom got me this knifty knitter thing (its a set of different looms and it teaches you how to knit without using needles essentially--this would be good if she isnt a knitter if she is a knitter you could always bring her some nice yarn), scrapbooking stuff, dvd's-particularly tv show series--they take longer to watch than traditional dvd's

If she is at home you could always come over and cook and clean for her (dont take no for an answer--I had a hard time accepting help at the beginning but honestly it will help her alot to know her laundry isnt piling up, the fridge is staying stocked, etc.) and just visiting--keeping her company when possible and talking about things not baby or medically related

HTH! You sound like a great friend for wanting to do this for her! Im sure she will appreciate anything you put together!

Thanks -- she's at home, and I WISH I could go help her cook/clean, but she's a few states away and I'm not up for traveling with my LO yet.

I'll check out that knitting thing you mentioned -- sounds cool.

    Thanks again!

  • ditto DVD's, maybe a subscription to netflix (I lived for mine), magazines, my BFF got me some lottery tickets (didn't last long, but were fun, especially since I won about $100 bucks!), maybe a GC to some place that delivers for her and DH when he gets home in the evenings since he'll be a bit overwhelmed, give her a call randomly during the day time (that was when I was loneliest as DH was at work and most of my friends/family were working too, send her crazy cards, some trashy romance novels or something she does like to read. I love the knitting idea as well...I knit 3 large baby blankets on BR (10 weeks), but I already knew how...my Dh was so cute calling me from the store while getting the yarn! :)
