GD- Diet soda.

Can I drink a diet soda like once a day with my GD. I figure it will cure my sweetness craving and it has no sugar or carbs??

Re: GD- Diet soda.

  • I don't because of the studies on fake sugar. Below is good info from american pregnancy. In terms of GD it is fine, but read the article and make the decision based on how you and your DH feel. GL! I def think a diet dr pepper could cure any of my sugar cravings!

  • My dietitian okay-ed diet soda, but you might want to ask yours just in case.  Also, I've been drinking Propel fit water around snack time, and my numbers have been okay.  I think finding treats that you can "get away with" (i.e. don't spike your blood sugar) is a trial and error thing, honestly.

The only thing I can imagine that might be an issue with diet soda is that it's empty calories and we need to get plenty of calories to give proper nutrition to the babies, but I don't personally see how one can a day will hurt.

  • I have one diet soda a day. Usually with dinner. Doc says it's perfectly okay!

  • I didn't.  First, Diet soda (any soda) has Carbonic Acid which isn't good for you or baby, so I stayed away.   Also they have the fake sugars in some of them and I wanted to try and stay away from those as well.

Water gets boring, but for the safety of my little one, I stayed away.

  • i haven't had soda, didn't even think to ask my dr.  but she did okay those crystal light singles packets.  i have 1 or 2 of those a day and it curbs my cravings for sweets.

All the diet sodas I've ever drank do not have any calories.  That's why people on diets drink them.  They don't have any effect on calorie intake.
