2nd Trimester

Are you using a mobile?

Just wondering?  I was reading in the Baby Bargains book that at around 6 months you should remove it.  I thought babies really couldn't see that distance that far away until then anyway?  LO will be in our room for a few months so I'm just wondering if we need it?

  • my LO loved the tiny symphony one from about 2 mos. on. I think we removed it when she could sit up ... like 5 mos or so.

awww thanks!! it was short lived but was really enjoyed & bought me time to do other stuff. ?

  • I didn't register for one with my son, but we did end up buying one around 3 months. It really calmed him down. We had to remove it around 7 months when he found out he could stand and hang from it.

I will use it again with my daughter. It is the FP Rainforest one. Didn't match any bedding, but it was functional.

Another thing babies love are light projectors. That is what we use now for my son.

  • We had one, it was cute and matched the bedding.  But a waste for us. For one thing DS slept in his Pack N Play for the first few months. I think he barely noticed it before he got too big and we had to take it away.  Plus a lot of the nicer cribs with the wider rails don't really have a good place to attach it or get scratched by it, so that is something to consider.
  • Yes, I've been reading up on baby development, and they are a definite "do" for visual/intellectual stimulation in the first few months.  Remember that hte baby's physical needs are not the only important thing in the first few months.  :)
  • Oh, FYI, the baby can see 8-10 inches away I think it was from birth.  The distance to your face, basically.  Within a couple months they can see across the room generally.  They don't know how long it takes for them to see in color--maybe a few months.
  • I've heard that black and white imaged ones are good for this visual development, or anything black and white for that matter. I don't plan on using one those, I think they're a waste.

we didnt buy one until she started seeming 'bored' - and seriously I think this thing gave her some of the visual stimulation she needed!! She was so happy. I do agree that the decorative ones are a waste though.

  • my daugher loved it! It made it a lot easier to put her down at night and I would use it during the day to get a quick shower in...total lifesaver!

  • OK this just made me add that mobile to my registry for my little girl - how adorable is your daughter - too stinkin cute
