Flavored water versus Juice?

Assuming that your dc gets the recommended (or even more than the recommended) of fruits every day, which do you think is better for them?

Ds isn't fond of plain water (unless he is brushing his teeth), so I'm looking for an alternative to juice. He normally drinks the V8Fusion (veggie/juice mixture).

Caprisun has a new item (Roarin Waters). It is all naturally flavored water. It does not have any artificial flavors and less sugar than juice.

WDYT?

  • I won't give them anything made by Capri Sun on principle.

Can you just decrease the amount of juice? Like a splash of juice in his water for flavor?

  • In an attempt to get logan to drink more so she will sit on the potty (bribe for potty training)  I bought something like what you're describing but they're made by minute maid.  They're called 'fruit falls.'  I thought I looked closely at the label for artificial sweeteners in the store, buy after I'd given one to logan I realized that it does have artificial sweetner in it.  sucralose (splenda.)  so, I'd look closely at the label. I don't plan on giving her anymore of these.  I will probably look into some motts for tots juice boxes just to get her to drink more.  The child will not drink.  She needs to drink so she can pee and be potty trained!
  • Honestly, Bella would only drink juice, and I got sick of it, so I didn't buy more juice, and within a few hours of telling her water was her only option, she drank it. She now likes it.

I have tried, but he is just too smart. He says it tastes yucky...lol. He did like the Caprisun (had it at an indoor play area).

Lu Lu - I will definitely check the ingredients. I don't want to be giving him a sugar subsistute either. Good suggestion!

  • Roarin' Waters contain both sucralose and sugar.
  • I refuse to give fake sweeteners to the kids, which MOST of the flavored waters have.

The big benefit to juice/fruit is the fiber in it, which would not be in the water.  The V8fusion would be my choice hands down, of the two.

Samantha likes water with lime or lemon juice in it, you could try that.
