So, starting WW instead of Nutrisystem

I know it's the smartest thing to do to teach myself how to eat properly, so I just joined. The website is really overwhelming though....

Trying to figure out how to calculate the points of what I am having for lunch and I want to make a grocery list bc we're going grocery shopping tonight and I don't even know where to begin. :(

  • Signing up is a big step!  I was thinking about doing the online version, too.  How much is it?  I feel like if I'm paying for it, I will stick to it.  I know what I should be eating, but can't help to pig out all the time...lol!

A lot of foods now have WWpoints on their labels so that should help you out.  I'm a big cheese person and I found string cheese that is 1 point and I love it as a snack with an apple or something.  Stick to grilled or baked chicken or fish (tuna, talapia, salmon) for your protein.  If you're bfing, you should only have 2 servings of fish per week.  If you make a salad and add your protein be careful with the dressing.  A WW tip, dip your fork in the dressing before each bite so you have a taste of it in every bite, but you're not covering your salad.  Lite italian dressing are the best way to go.  I like Balsamic!  Egg whites and oatmeal or an egg white sandwich with your favorite veggie is good for breakfast.  All your bread should say 100% wheat and have no or low sugar.  I like Sandwich Thins...they are awesome!  Sorry that I'm rambling, you said you don't know what to eat so I thought I'd try to help.  Drink a lot of water and try chewing sugar free gum when you have a craving.  Healthy Choice fudge bars are good for something sweet.  Read all labels (low calories and fat, no or low sugar, and high fiber) and get all the junk out of your house...good luck!

Thanks for your reply! I know NOTHING about the site and it makes me feel dumb, lol. Do you have a grocery list on the computer you'd wanna share?

I dont have a online grocery list, I kind of look through the recipees and go from there. differant each week. I eat a lot of chicken, veggies, brown rice, potatoes. Popcorn! I lost 30 pounds on WW before getting pregnant with O. GL Mama I think you will enjoy it!

  • I do the on-line version - lost 50 lbs. in 7 months before I got pregnant! It's an awesome program and I'm lucky in that my body actually responds really well to it.

I don't have an online grocery list, but I can give you my go-tos for meals. I get 22 pts. per day:

    Breakfast:
lite english muffin with 1 egg white and 1 egg; 3 pts.
kashi waffle topped with a 6 oz. container of dannon yogurt; 3 pts.
3/4 cup kashi honey sunshine cereal & 3/4 cup milk; 2.5 pts.
    3/4 cup cheerios & 3/4 cup milk; 2.5 pts.
Dannon or Wegmans yogurt w/ 3 tsps. of Special K low fat granola; 3 pts.

    Lunch:
I almost always do a Lean Cuisine frozen meal in the 4-5 pt. range
I used to add a bowl of steamed broccoli and 1 tsp. of olive oil but all the fiber in the broccoli started to bother me (if you know what I mean). Now I just add a 1 pt. cheese stick (Acme Skim Milk mozz. sticks are 1 pt. as are Polly-O 2% milk mozz. and cheddar twists)

An alternative lunch is Morningstar Farm spicy black bean veggie burger on a Arnold Sandwich thin  topped with a 1 pt. stick of string cheese shredded; 4 pts.

Dinner is tough for me b/c I like to cook, but I do use a lot of the WW recipes and Cooking Light has great options as well.

    Snacks:
    1 pt. cheese stick
2 pt. yogurt (I like Dannon Light n' Fit or Wegmans brand)
1 pt. Orville Redenbacher 100 Calorie Smartpop microwave popcorn

Hope that helps and good luck!

  • I've been doing the program on and off for a long time, and it's always worked really well for me when I really work hard at it.  I also lost about 50 pounds in about 8 months (5 years ago) before my wedding.

One great website is www.dwlz.com (Dotti's Weight Loss Zone). She's a lifetime member of WW and has put together this fabulous website with a ton of stuff.  The best part is there's a page with restaurants, and she tries to get the point values for their entire menu.  There's also bulletin boards onn the site with a ton of recipes.  Most of my WW recipes that I use are from there.
