Pregnant after a Loss

If you had more than one loss

Did you find out a potential cause?  Was there a particular treatment that seemed to do the trick for you to hold on to this pregnancy?

After a consecutive missed m/c and CP, I'm getting tested and just wondering what might be in store for me and looking for hope.  Thanks for humoring me and good luck to you all Smile.

Re: If you had more than one loss

  • After my 2nd loss I was referred to RE and genetics Dr. . They did HSG and bloodwork testing that revealed 3 different possible problems (folic acid deficeincy, uterine septum, and MTHFR).  They treated all 3 not knowing which was the true cause, and by doing this, I have had a successful pg so far! Good luck to you, I hope you get answers!

  • After my second loss I had blood work done and everything came back okay.  If I had not gotten pg with this one so soon my ob would have started some testing on my hubby.  I was told it was common for women to have 2 m/c's.  It sucks big time I know!  Good luck!!!

  • I never had testing after my first loss so I don't know what the problem really was.  With my 2nd loss, my progesterone level was very low.  With this pregnancy, my progesterone level was low again in the beginning so I went on supplements.  So for me, I think the issue was that I needed the supplements.
  • We didn't have any testing done after the last loss because there was several years between my losses.  Sorry, not much help...

    Good luck!

  • after my 2nd I went to an RE and was diagnosed with factor V Leiden and Protein  C resistance- two clotting disorders. So- Im pregnant again and on heparin and ba and progesterone. Im hoping all of this helps...Im 9 weeks tomorrow and each of my 3 miscarriages happened during week 8.
  • After my second loss, I started seeing a fertility specialist who ran TONS of tests on both me & DH. We got our answers - undiagnosed hypothyroidism & MTHFR. Got on proper meds and am now 38 weeks pregnant without a single complication! Smile
  • I?ve had two missed miscarriages and never got answers. Cause I didn?t ?qualify? for the testing until I?ve had three. Horseshit. So I was just told it was ?bad luck.? Nice huh?

It is horseshit.  I am so lucky my OB approved testing, especially since my last loss was barely even a pregnancy in the eyes of the medical community.  But I'm so happy this pregnancy is going well for you, Katie.

I was pretty much the same...I've always needed progestrone.  I think that is what caused our first loss.  Our second was Turner's syndrome (I think Trisomy 18) but my testing came back normal.  I swear by the progestrone though!

  • We had already had a healthy pregnancy when we experienced our two losses.  After our first, we didn't do any testing, but after the 2nd, we had the baby tested (as a first course of action) and she came back with a chromosonal abnormality, which made her incompatible with life.  Because this was not something that is caused by anything from me or my dh, the dr recommended that we leave it there.  And if we have a 3rd consecutive loss, then we'll do further testing.  Well, this one stuck, so sometimes it is just "bad luck".  If your dr is having you do further testing, I hope you find the answers you're looking for!  Good luck!
  • I have had three losses total.  Two were in a row.  Then got pregnant with DD and had her.  Then one more loss.

I was tested after my second loss.  The only thing that was found was that I have one copy of the A MTHFR mutation.  I also tend to have low progesterone.  For DD, I was on baby aspirin, folgard, and 200 mg progesterone suppositories twice a day.

I thought all would be well from there on out but had another loss in September 2009.  I went back to the RE where I didn't go through any more testing but my treatment was changed to include Lovenox in addition to everything else.  Hopefully it will do the trick so I can have my second sticky.

Hang in there.  I know how rough it is.  I found a lot of empowerment from going to the RE.  It took us almost a full year from meeting with the RE to getting pregnant with DD but I felt pretty good about the process the whole time - like I was doing something to make things happen FOR me rather than letting things happen TO me.   In that year, I had some things that slowed me down like a hysteroscopy to remove scar tissue resulting from my D&C (it was stopping me from getting pregnant).

    Good luck!

  • I had an ectopic and an early loss.  They never figured out why, even though I made them test for everything.

I wish you all the luck in the world on your sticky baby, and I hope you do find an answer.

  • I have had two losses. My first miscarriage was a natural miscarriage at 4 1/2 weeks, so most likely it was a chemical pregnancy. My second loss was shortly after. This time I went in at 6 1/2 weeks and saw a heartbeat, however when I went back at 8 1/2 weeks the pregnancy had not progressed and the heartbeat was no longer detectable, I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage.?After the second time I begged my doctor to do testing, since I knew I could not go any further without some sort of picture as to what had happened. She ran so many tests to try and figure out the problem (blood clotting, thyroid, rh factor, and so many more I can't even remember). All results were negative. After waiting 3 weeks to miscarry naturally I??opted for a D&C, and had the fetal tissue tested. It turned out my second miscarriage was caused by a chromosomal abnormality called triploidy. This is not known to be a recurring issue, so I was somewhat relieved with that diagnosis.?I am glad to hear that you are able to get tested. It gave me a lot of clarity and hope because at least I knew what was NOT the problem. ?I know it is hard when you are going through it, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck to you with your testing, ?I hope you find the answers you are hoping for, ?and good luck having that "perfect sticky baby"!

  • After my third, I had an HSG and bloodwork.  Both came back normal.  My doctor put me on progesterone suppositories and baby aspirin because it couldn't hurt.

    Good luck!
