2nd Trimester

Talk me down?

So I still am not feeling movement regular enough to be sure it's movement, and this is my second pregnancy.  I've also only gained about 5 pounds, none of that in the last few weeks, and let me tell you that is highly unusual for me--i'm the kind of person that looks at food and gains.  I'm normally a rational person, I swear, but I'm really worried about this.

My next appt is next week, and I can't get in any sooner.  I'm about to buy a doppler on Amazon, but I kind of think I'm being nuts.  Anyone want to talk me down?  Or talk me into buying the doppler to hopefully ease my mind?

Help!  How did I get so crazy??

Re: Talk me down?

  • I'll try my best.  Every pregnancy is different.  Do you have an anterior placenta?  I'm sure you'll feel more in the comming weeks.  I had a friend tell me she bought a dopplar, but could NEVER hear the h/b, even at like 8 months!  I would try not to worry, and ask your doctor questions when you go next week.

  • Try not to worry! I'm sure everything is okay. But this is exactly why I bought a doppler- piece of mind during the "I don't feel pregnant" weeks. Does someone you know have one you could borrow?

Maybe the differences between this and your last pregnancy are a sign that you're having a baby of the opposite gender!

     Good luck!

  • For some reason I was much more worried with this pregnancy than I was with my daughter. I have an anterior placenta and didn't feel regular movement until between 19 and 20 weeks. Outside of pregnancy I have no issues gaining weight, unfortunately, but I'm still -1 pound at this point. I wouldn't be too concerned. Do not give into the doppler. I almost did and now I'm glad I didnt' waste the money.

  • I'll provide the logical (although perhaps not too comforting) standpoint...

IF (and that's a BIG "IF" on purpose) something has happened and things are not going as "planned," there is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it.  As the pp mentioned, home dopplers are not reliable, and may just serve to get you even more worked up over what is hopefully nothing.

Let your doc's office know that you are very concerned and ask if they can let you know of any earlier openings/cancellations.  Then... Think healthy and stay positive - it's really all you can do.

    Good luck!

  • I would see the not gaining weight as a good thing.  It must mean the baby is chowing down in there!
