Games at a Baby Shower? Ideas?

Anyone have any good ones?  I don't think my friend would like any of the 'string around the belly' or weight games though.

Thanks!

Re: Games at a Baby Shower? Ideas?

  • At my sister's shower, I put together a bunch of baby-related stuff (bottles, diapers, rattles, etc.) on a big tray. The guests had like 30 seconds to look at everything, then tried to write down as many items as they could.

We also did "Baby Shower Bingo," which you can play a lot of different ways, but I had the guests fill in bingo cards with things they thought my sister would receive as a gift. That way people really paid attention during the gift opening.

  • I hosted a shower for my best friend last year.  I didn't know her family very well, so I didn't want anything that would be embarrassing or annoying.

I made name tags for all (for my benefit, mostly) with little cloth diapers attached to them.  One of the diapers had a "surprise" Smile in it.  The person who had the poop (aka raisinete) won a prize.  There is a photo of the tags here.

Then we did guess the baby food.  I had a dozen different containers of baby food that were all numbered.  Guests passed them around and had to guess what food it was.  This game was a huge hit!

While she was opening gifts, I randomly set a kitchen timer.  The giver of the gift that was being opened when the timer went off won a prize.

  • I have played and hosted "bingo", but we just had guests fill out the card randomly with numbers (1-24,free space in middle) and then labeled the gifts with numbers. As the mom opened the gift she would call out the number. It was fun and not cheesy. I also printed out "25 old wives tales" about a boy or a girl and the guests had to guess which sex the owt belong to. The winner had the most right.

Joseys - is there no end to your talent?

  • I have been to some where they did the tray with baby items that the mom-to-be took around.  But once she left they were asked questions about the mom-to-be NOT the tray.  It was fun because hardly remember what the MTB was even wearing, how many earrings, if she had on nail polish, shoes, necklace, etc.

A quick easy game is to put M&M's in a baby bottle (or other container) and pass it around and ask the guests to guess how many without going over.  They just write it on a card with their name.

Baby bingo is fun but I really like the number idea so much better than writing down items.  I went to a couple where the people brought a basket of stuff and wrote everything from the basket down so they won like twice in a row as soon as their gift was opened!

A cute shower idea to get things going is the "Pair of Bloomers" game.  You wrap a 2 flower (bloomers) corsage in a box with several layers of tissue paper.  Announce that whoever takes off the last sheet of tissue has to wear the "pair of bloomers" for the remainder of the shower.  Then they pass it while music is playing and when the music stops the person holding it takes off one layer of tissue paper.  It is kind of a "hot potato" game.  The tissue papers were different colors and designs.  There were 60 people at this shower and I'd say there were 15 layers on it.  It was hilarious because people were throwing it into each other's lap once they thought it was getting to the end of the layers of tissue.  Note:  wrap the corsage carefully - bubble wrap maybe.  Anyway the person who took off the last sheet was presently surprised to find she had a corsage to wear...not really a pair of bloomers.  It was a lot of fun and a real ice breaker.
