Is it okay if ds lays on the couch all day and watches t.v.?

He is sick. Went to Urgent Care last night and he has a bad wet cough, fever and an ear infection.

He has been watching t.v. since he got up this morning and won't budge. The cat is actually laying on top of him.

I've tried to get him interested in playing w/toys, puzzles, drawing, coloring, playdoh, etc., but no such luck. I don't want to take him out of the house since he is sick.

Any other ideas? Should I just turn the t.v. off or let it be for today?

  • He probably feels too bad to do anything.  I would just keep him hydrated and let him rest.  When sick, my DS usually gets up and starts playing again when feeling better after a while of watching TV.  Hope he is better soon!

  • When they're sick, I let them watch tv all day.  They also get to eat and drink on the couch (usually a huge no-no).

  • I'd let him rest. It sounds like he needs it

  • He's sick, I would let him. My kids were sick with the stomach bug last week and pretty much laid on the couch for 4 days. They are both fine now and the tv is the last thing on their minds.

  • I think it's fine since he doesn't feel well. Just keep an eye on him and keep him hydrated.

Does your cat lay on top of him normally?

lol. Just lately. She loves that kid for some reason (ever since he was a baby). She would always be concerned whenever he would have a specific cry, etc.

  • That's what DS does when he is sick. I see nothing wrong with it. He does have a few books on CD that he likes to listen to too. I know he's feeling better when he wants to play computer games.
  • sounds good to me. My DS might do that today too and we aren't sick just lazy and need a break from doing "stuff"
  • When L is sick, he usually lays in my bed and watches TV.  I don't see anything wrong with it when he is sick.  No point in forcing him to play if he isn't feeling well.

This exactly.  Brendan has been sick only twice ever, but both times he simply had NO energy to do anything at all, and I couldn't see just having him lay on the couch with nothing at all going on, so I popped on the boob tube.  He thought it was pretty cool--that's what he talks about now when he talks about when he was sick, LOL!

He only watches one half-hour show after dinner normally, so that was a big deal!

  • Sure! That's what we're doing!
