XP: Too old for a second nap?

DS will be two in March and is still taking 2 naps per day. About an hour in the morning and an hour and a half to two hours in the afternoon.  Bed time is around 8:00 and he gets up about 6:45.  He dropped the second nap about 2 months ago for about 2 weeks then went back to it.  Maybe I should just be grateful but it just seems like he is getting a little old for this.  He is usually okay if we are out and about if he misses a nap.  Should I be pushing one nap or just leave him at two naps.  BTW he STTN off an on, but right now he is STTN.

  • Wow! DD#1 has been down to 1 nap since like 12 mos!  Does taking the nap influence his STTN??  Id say your def fine to drop it but if he needs it and he sleeps all nite, I dont see the harm.

This.  Althought my nephew still takes 2 naps at just over 2yr.  He also screams for several hours before he actually goes to sleep at night.  So...the 2 naps are needed.

  • DD dropped down to 1 nap around 13 months, but has now gone back to 2.  She started waking up earlier (6 vs. 8) but we kept her bedtime the same at 7:30.  She has always STTN with both.  I am actually grateful she went back to 2 naps as it breaks up the day a little better for me.  But this was not something I "scheduled" her to do. I say if your LO needs it or wants it, go for it.
  • Carson dropped his 2nd nap around 13 months.

     he naps from 1 - 3pm and sleeps 8pm - 7am.
