DS and DD have both thrown up before, but the only true stomach bug that came through our house was over 2 years ago (thank goodness). DD was only 3 weeks at the time, so DH pretty much took care of DS.
Assuming that I will have to deal with this sometime now that DS is in preschool, how do you deal with a vomiting child? Do you sleep with them, keep them in their bed covered with towels, or something different? My kids are 2 & 3 right now and don't give warning when they're going to vomit.
Barf is truly my downfall and it strikes fear in the pit of my stomach when I hear about a bug going around! I'm only halfway kidding.......
Re: How do you deal with a sick kid?
I usually sleep on the couch with them. I have a barf bucket near by just in case.
Our couch is leather and I would prefer they vomit all over that than in their rooms which are the only area with carpet!
I have a very weak stomach and just the thought of them getting sick is enough to make me sick.
It's happened a couple of times, but I usually put DD on our couch with towels down and I sleep with her there. I give her a bucket and she's good about making it in there. The weird thing is, it doesn't bother me in the moment. I know I can handle it now.
I have to ditto emilykristene in that, if I think about it, it's awful, but when you are dealing with it, it is not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. I can't believe I just said that. We have really only dealt with it once. DD had gotten sick in her bed and I discovered it when I checked on her before going to bed. She slept on our bedroom floor the rest of the night (hardwoods) and made it into a bucket.
Now, I don't know what I'd do with DS. He thinks sleeping anywhere but his crib is a big game and doesn't actually sleep. I know this because I took him down to the couch last night while he was coughing and he just laughed and climbed around.
We camp out on the couch with a barf bucket and plenty of towels. I don't get much notice, but she usually will go Uh, uh, uh and I know I have like a couple of seconds to hold her head over the bucket.
I give her a shot glass and sprite to sip on.
