1st Trimester

1st appt. today - anyone else with this experience?

I had my first appt. today - the usual pee test and consult.  When the doc asked if I had any symptoms, I mentioned nauseau, fatigue and mild cramping.  He seemed to get on edge about the cramping and asked if I had been spotting (answer: no) and that he would add a test to my b/w to check my levels. If my levels were 2,000+, they would have me in for an ultrasound.  If the levels were below, I would wait a week, go in for more b/w, and if the levels were up then have the ultrasound.  Does this sound normal?  Should I be more freaked out?  Did any of you have a similar experience?  Thanks!

I know cramping is a sign of m/c, but isn't it also a pretty common pg symptom?  I could have sworn I had the same mild cramps when I was pg with DD...

  • Cramps are pretty normal, I wouldn't be freaked out at all.

  • I had mild cramping through weeks 4-6 on and off and I thought it was fairly normal as well.  Not sure why the doc is doing what he's doing.

  • cool, I was pretty sure it was a common symptom.  I went to another doctor in the practice instead of my usual doctor, so perhaps I'm just not used to his demeanor.  I'm not going to get worked up about it.  I have 35 more weeks for that!

  • I am as far along as you are and I am still experiencing mild cramping. No spotting. I was a bit concerned, but by seeing what other people have said it seems normal. My first appointment is tomorrow. I guess I'll see if I get a similar reaction.
  • I had mild cramping on and off for a while.  My doctor said that was normal.

    Where in CT are you?

  • I had a lot of mild cramping around 4-5 weeks. I didn't think it was a big deal and my doctor didn't seem weird about it either. I wouldn't worry.

I'm in West Hartford.  Hey, we're pretty close!  I never noticed you were from CT - there are so few of us around here it seems!
  • I've been cramping on and off for a week. I don't think its scary unless you are spotting.
  • At my first visit, I told my Ob/GYN about cramping and he said it was gas or something - but nothing to worry about. I know my uterus was either stretching or I had gas and I had it a few weeks and I still have it once in a blue moon.

yep - we're probably an hour away.  We're actually going to East Hartford this weekend for a birthday party.  Do you know Julia0402?  She's kind of up your way.

I'm not sure if I "know" Julia - I'm better with siggy pics than names.  I just started lurking on the september board, but I have to start posting more.  I love how active the board is!
  • Mine did the same thing.  He let me know right away, cramping is normal and not to worry if there is no bleeding, but he wanted to do bloodwork just to ensure.

It's great how active it is!!  I wish we had month boards with our first.  Have you ever been to Kid City in Middletown?  I've been dying to go!  We should have a GTG!

  • I'd venture to say I had moderate cramping the first couple weeks after my BFP...identical to menstrual cramps for me. I haven't really had any cramping since then - just an occasional thing.
  • I'll bet he was burned in the past for not checking someone else's levels and now he's super cautious and checks everyone's levels if they have cramping.

This. I wouldn't worry. Stertchy and crampy feelings are totally normal.
