Babies: 0 - 3 Months

naps for 2 month old..

My 2 month old only takes 2-3 20 minute naps a day.  She is extremely cranky and fussy because I can tell she is tired but she WILL NOT sleep.  Does anybody else get this?  She sleeps a good 5-6 hours at night a feeding then another 2-3 hours but NONE during the day.

Wanted to know if I was the only one getting sleep deprived still!

  • Aidan suddenly quit napping last week. He still sleeps fine at night but sometimes it's a hassle to get him to sleep because he's overtired. I have no answers!

  • We're in the same boat.  Occasionally I will get about an hour nap in the afternoon, but that's rare.  We usually get a short nap in the morning, afternoon and early evening.  The rest of the time between 5p-9p is spent fussing b/c she's so tire. Sorry, no help here.
  • My LO was like this until we found the beauty of his swing/glider. When he starts fussing and rubbing his eyes, I immediately put him in the glider for a nap. Works like a charm. However, my DH waits to put him in sometimes (he doesn't notice the cues as quick) and my LO gets overtired. He doesn't fall asleep. So the key is to recognize when your LO is tired and jump into action.

  • I've been struggling with the same issue for over a month.  I've resorted to taking DS on long car rides because car rides put DS to sleep right away.  It's not the best option, but it works.
  • The key is to find the exact right time when LO becomes drowsy, not tired and not overtired. Then, begin soothing and put LO down for a nap either in the crib, pnp or swing. Also, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child is a great book that explains this philosophy. You just really have to watch your child's cues. That said, it doesn't always mean long naps, but should help eliminate some of the crankiness. GL!
