Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

oh thomas the train....

i really wanted to avoid this obsession, but apparently it's inevitable. anytime we go somewhere w/a train table he freaks out. dh let timmy watch the show this weekend.... it was hilarious. screaming, laughing, shrieking, waving his arms in the air.... apparently thomas is the GREATEST THING EVER!!! i'm doomed........

Re: oh thomas the train....

  • You're totally doomed.  I seriously don't understand the fascination!  Thomas was the only thing DS even liked on TV for a long time.

I find the show pretty boring, but they love it!

  • DS loves Thomas!

Does it crack anyone else up that the 2 narrators of this children's show are George Carlin & Alec Baldwin?

  • Oh my gosh anytime we go anywhere Teagan is looking for Thomas.  So I pray that we alongside a train track and a train comes along just to make her happy.  It's insane.  That show is such a snore to me.

Btw I LOVE your siggy pic.  Absolutely priceless.

  • We have the entire Take Along series. Do not get anything Track Master, it is cheap crap and the wooden kind are expensive. Every kid I know ages 18m-10 years loves this stuff.

I know, does anyone else think that they (the trains) aren't very nice?  They are always mean to each other

  • he's obsessed w/real trains too. there is a play place near our house, and it is right by the el track. every time the train passes he stops what he's doing to scream. my dad is obsessed w/trains so maybe that's where he gets it from! we already have a big lionel train, and a med size lionel polar express, but when we move and get a playroom a thomas train table is first on my list of toys to get!

Yes and YES!  My DH and I have the convo about the narrators all the time.

And I swear my DS has learned to make mean faces from Thomas.  They are very snotty with each other most episodes.

  • Very dry, cheeky British sense of humor. Totally not mean.

I know they're always calling Thomas a "cheeky little engine", but I find some of the situations a little too snotty; British humor or not.

  • Perspective is everything!

I see it as snarky and funny.

  • It amuses me that we can use the word snarky in relation to a children's show. I never used that word until the Bump.
  • i remember shining time station from when i was babysitting back in the day. not only was george carlin the narrator, but he was mr. conductor. he and ringo starr. it was soooo bizzare to me.

  • DD seems to go back and forth on this show, but I do tend to think most of the trains are a bunch of jerks LOL. It makes me laugh but they're always snotty to each other or playing tricks on each other...
  • I have to confess that I <3 Thomas the Tank Engine.  I think it's because I associate it with kids that I babysat for forever that I adore.    DD has no interest but I'm hoping DS will.  I need a train-track building buddy!
