Peanut Shell Slings

So I am being a PW today, but oh, well.

Doesn't someone have a Peanut Shell Sling?

So I bought one yesterday (that was fun trying one on with my big ol' belly).

I went to the website when I got home just to look around and they had some great deals on there.

I want to use a sling, but to be honest the scare me.  I'm afraid of baby falling out.

I thought I was the only person afraid of this!!

  • I do! There are a couple pics of GK in it (in the hip carry) on my FB. He loves it!

I'll check them out.  I thought it was you who had one.  Did you start using it when he was a newborn?

He wasn't a fan of it as a newborn-I think he felt too confined-so I didn't use it much then. (He also hated to be swaddled). My friend's baby, on the other hand, LOVED the PS when she was a newborn. I guess it just depends on the baby. Now, he can get in it, get comfy, and go right to sleep.

I used to be afraid of that as well...but trust me they are lifesavers! They are pretty secure in there.  There have been a few days that Aubrey has wanted to be held a lot and I needed to get things done so voila I put her in and I can accomplish both at once :)

  • Wow, those are great deals on their Website! I have a Peanut Shell sling and it was great for when M was really little.  And there's a very small learning curve but you shouldn't worry about them falling out =)  The sling acts almost like a cocoon; especially when they're newborn.

Now, when M got bigger (more than 10 lbs), it started hurting my back when I wore him in the sling.  IMHO, if you want to continue to "babywear", then try something like a soft-structured carrier. When he got to be around 3.5 months, I invested in a CatBirdBaby Pikkolo carrier and it was a LIFESAVER when we traveled through the airport {since I go "solo"} and I can wear M 4 different ways and it doesn't kill my back.

Even though they say you can use the Peanut Shell sling as a hip-carry when they get older, it's wasn't very comfortable for me.  But for TEN bucks...I'd say to go for it!

  • I tried the Peanut Shell , I personally did not like it at all, and DD didn't either. DD was only 4lbs 13oz when we brought her home so I did some research on carriers. The Baby k'tan carrier was the only one I found that was listed as "good for preemies" and had no bad reviews. And trust me I looked everywhere. There is a store in Homewood that sells them. They have about 6 different ways to carry LO and can be used up to 40lbs. I was mine all the time, we went to the zoo and walked around for what 3 hours and I was comfortable the whole time.
