Monsters?

Yesterday when we were pulling in to the driveway Walter told me he didn't want the monsters to come to his house.  Tonight he told DH that he was afraid of the monsters and wanted them to go away.  At bed time he gave me Where the Wild things are and another book that has monsters in it and told me to "take them away".

For the last 4 nights he hasn't been going to sleep with out at least an hour long struggle; he screams and sobs until he can't breath and is drenched in sweat.  We ask him what's wrong and he says he's scared.  He'll go to sleep in our bed but not in his own.

How can we get rid of the monsters?  We looked in closets, drawers and under the bed.  He said no monsters in my bed no monsters in my house but he still seems scared.  Anyone else deal with this?

  • I don't have any advice, but wanted to give you big HUGS!  That sounds terrible.  What a poor little guy.

  • Does he have a night light?  Poor guy.  My niece is having issues with sleeping in the dark, not sure if it's monsters or what, but she has to sleep with the room light on.  Would that help him?   I don't know how they can go to sleep with a light on but hey, whatever works.

  • My girlfriend had something similar with her daughter & they got a spray bottle filled with "magic de -monster spray" in it and they sprayed away the monsters! (Water & a little food dye)  Might be worth a try! You could even make up a special label & stick in it on the bottle!

    Goodluck :)

My sister did the same thing, except she made a big deal about taking her daughter to the store to get monster spray (air freshener).  Worked like a charm!

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  We are going to go buy some monster spray tonight.  And he already has a night light, so hopefully this will do the trick.
