GD and scheduled c-section tip

I'm having a scheduled c-section tomorrow for a medical reason unrelated to GD. They scheduled me for 1pm and the instructions were not to eat or drink after midnight or take my morning insulin. I wondered how they would handle me not eating or drinking for such a long time but assumed they knew what they were doing.

Today I had an amnio with MFM. MFM finds out I'm scheduled at 1pm and says "no way" - I cannot go that long without fluids. She calls the on-call OB who says there are no residents on Wed mornings to assist. The new plan: I have to be at the hospital at 8am tomorrow for IV fluids and to monitor my blood sugar levels until the c-section! I'm already a nervous wreck about the c-section and now I get 5 hours to sit around and think about it.

My advise - if you have GD and are having a scheduled c-section make sure they schedule you first thing in the morning!

Re: GD and scheduled c-section tip

  • I can understand you on being nervous. I suggest you try to get a nap in and if that don't work and if possible, do a lot of bumping to help the time pass. I would go crazy not eating that long. GL tomorrow and hears to a problem free C-section and two healthy babies.
