Due Date Advice

Hi, I'm new to the board.  Thought I could use the advice of any mom especially those with twins.  I'm a first time mom to be and I'm having twins. We're not finding out what we are having until they're born - -  due date is 6/22, however there seems to be a general census that the twins will be born around the end of May.  Just wondering if this is what has been told to you or you've experienced - Delivery around 35 weeks.

Any advice on exercise, double strollers, furniture, etc would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Re: Due Date Advice

  • My understanding is that the "average" birth for twins is around 36 weeks?

Here are some FAQ's that will help you too -- oh, this includes a "survey" of the ladies on the board and when they had their multiples.  https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/7724150.aspx

First things first -- get yourself the book by Dr. Barbara Luke (What to expect with twins, triplets, etc. or something like that), look her up on Amazon and it should be first on the list.  This will help you answer your questions about excersise (minimal) and also help you with what to eat/weight gain.

    CONGRATS!

  • the avg twin birth is 35-36w according to Dr. Luke - if you haven't yet, get her book and read it fast - will give you lots of answers to questions you will have - and help you have a healthy twin pg.

so with that avg- plenty go earlier, plenty go later- with the latest being 38w for most doctors... some will let you go to 39. My doc only goes to 38  with twins- doesn't want to mess around with the risks after that, since 38w is term and babies do great at 38w - studies have shown this to be the best for twins.  I made it to 38w1d to my scheduled c/s... i feel quite lucky.

look up the FAQ on the top of this page and read through that- tons of answers to your questions- which all are really their own posts- lots of info :)

  • Just wanted to say Congrats!
  • Average gestation for twins is 36w as someone mentioned, but full-term is 37w so hopefully you can make it that far! :) I made it to my scheduled induction at 37w6d.

Definitely get a copy of When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets and Quads by Dr. Barbara Luke. And check my blog, www.rootbeertwins.blogspot.com, for my registry recommendations for twins and also a list of companies who give discounts and freebies for multiples.
