Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How many times does your 5 month old wake up at night?

DD has been waking up 4-5 times a night for the past week.  I just went back to work last week and I don't know if it is from all the change?  She also hasn't been napping longer than 30 min at a time and only taking 2 or 3 naps too.  Just curious how many times your LO wakes up at night?

Re: How many times does your 5 month old wake up at night?

  • I posted this very question last night.  B wakes around 10 times a night.  It's torture, literally.  He's also thinking 3 half hour naps a day is enough.

  • SHe might be teething.  Mine slept through the night from 7 weeks on until a few weeks ago and with all the teeting pain and head congestion and stuff that it causes, he is just pathetic.  He wakes up 2 to three times now.

  • Mine wakes up many times during the night and we have to put the pacifier back in usually. We feed her twice during the night, but she wakes up so much we never really know whether to feed her or not... She never naps well. 30 minutes is usually how long her naps are too. It's horrible! We are planning to do some sleep training, but haven't decided our method yet...

  • 2-4.

Only once for a feeding/diaper change, though, and she usually puts herself right back to sleep all the other times. Sometimes she needs a diaper change or pacifier placement, but that is rare.

  • Our sleeping schedule has been all over the charts.  Up until 2 months she was getting up once a night, then for a month she was getting up twice a night, then she starting getting up about 6 times a night, then we ferbered at 4 months and she was STTN for about a month, but with the craziness of Christmas, and a cold, and teething, we're back to about 4 times a night.  AAAGGGHHHH!!!!!

  • And yes, we get the 3, 30 minute naps as well.

  • Zero.  Sorry- she sleeps through the night.  Sometimes she has very restless sleep and I can hear her up a bit but doesn't wake up crying at all.

  • He'll be 5 months next week...he used to only wake up once, at 3am but now he has been waking up 4-5 times a night. Ugh! Its getting very tiring!

  • For a while LO would only wake up at 4-5am to get his feeding after sleeping for about 8 hours and then back to bed for another 2-3 hours.  But over the last 2 weeks he has started to have a little more wakefulness where he needs his pacifier and then is able to go back to sleep.

  • Sounds like sleep regression is a bit of a theme around 5 months.

Things are going great for us. Bite your tongue!  Stick out tongue

  • It's happening here, too. He naps terribly and refuses to go to bed. He's currently downstairs with DH, shrieking in delight. When he finally falls asleep, he wakes up at least 3 times to nurse (and only the boob will do. No bottled allowed!). It. Is. Exhausting. Wouldn't be so bad if he were happy through the awake time, but he just fusses and wants to be carried around other than the couple of play times he has. Hopefully he gets back to STTN soon!

Consider yourself lucky!!  Just don't jinx yourself.  Every single time I've ever mentioned how well DD had been sleeping, she totally turned the tables on me!

  • Well, I'm glad to hear that my LO isn't the only one with sleep regression issues going on.  She STTN from 6 weeks until she was about five months old.  For the past month, she has been getting up 2-6 times each night.  She stopped STTN when she outgrew her Moses basket and we tried to transition her into her crib...then we went on vacation...then she started teething...finally we are back home and trying to restart a routine...I'm tired!
  • I'm so sleep deprived I can't even count anymore. Last night he did a first "long" stretch of exactly 3 hours, then, right after we went to bed, he was up every 1-2 hours until 7:30. At 7:30 he slept for another 3 hours and so did I.
