3rd Trimester

Pregnant over a year...

Re: Pregnant over a year...

  • I'd like to know the doctors logic for saying it's "quite impossible" that she could have had a miscarriage and gotten pregnant again.  Babies don't just stop growing for 3 months and then pick up where they left off.

    This.

  • I have to admit, I'm skeptical.  Why couldn't she have had a miscarriage and get pregnant again unknowingly????

DH's aunt swears she was pregnant for 11 months, my thoughts were chemical pregnancy followed by a healthy one.

My mom swears the same thing. She says she was due July 31 and my sister was born exactly a month late on August 31. Somehow mom, I doubt they let you go a MONTH late.

  • I've never heard of this....it sounds rediculous. If I were a bettin' woman, I'd bet that she had a miscarraige and conceived again. I've never even heard of such a thing. No dr. in the USA would even consider letting a pregnancy go so past over due.

LOL According to MIL, both DH and SIL were a month late as well. I could maybe see that being the case back in the late 80's early 90's but I think her due date was just off.

?Yeah, I love how the prospect of having a miscarriage and a pregnancy shortly thereafter is impossible, but having a baby go on standby for 3 months is perfectly plausible. ??

"Cool as Hell like e-mail, but still timeless like a letter."
  • Yea..impossible. I had a M/C in Sept 08, didn't get a period following, found out in Nov 08 that I was 10wks pregnant and the doc asked me "Could this be the same pregnancy?" .....uuummm, NO. SO pregnancies do happen very close together unknowingly...but babies that jsut call it quits for 3 months? I can't believe they're even entertaining this idea.
  • It is quite possible that her ovulation date was much later than the normal two weeks after a period. My guess is that she didn't ovulate for a while say a month or two and then got pregnant.

Inductions rarely ever happened back then. I'm 23 and my mom was 3 1/2 weeks late with me (suppose to be born in august and I was born at the end of September). Her OB didn't mention anything about induction. My sister was also born 3 weeks late (she would be 25--died at 18 months) and my brother was born 4 weeks late and he is 29. She's a nurse and never had any menstrual issues. Knew when she ovulated and when she got pregnant to the tee. The use of any medications to put you into labor as well as during labor weren't really heard of too much so odd years ago.

I am 29 so obviously they do things quite different now, but I was actually one of those babies.  My mom was due on May 20th with me, but I didn't enter the world until June 20th.  Back then, they simply told her she "got her dates wrong". She knows she didn't (considering that she had a blood test @ like  4 weeks to determine that she was pregnant). She simply was one of those women who can't progress (I was a crash C-section due to fetal distress).

In regards to the Time story, however, I too am a bit skeptical.
