3rd Trimester

Acid Reflux/Hearburn/Indigestion

What are you all taking? I was taking Prilosec because thats what the nurses at my OB's office suggested. It was working wonderfully! When I was discussing with my doctor that I was taking it he told me to stop and try Pepcid or Tagament. So, I have ... And neither have worked well. I still carry Tums everywhere with me but they only seem to help for about 30 minutes. I've tried drinking milk and I've tried shots of vinegar. They help but only temporarily... I'm open to any suggestions. I'm miserable.......

  • My doctors office said Maalox.  I haven't taken it yet as the HB usually goes away before I need the meds.

  • I use Maalox the Berry Flavor. It works wonderfully for me.

  • My doctor told me Zantac at my last appointment. I'm just mad at myself for not asking sooner, it works great! I wasn't eating a lot for like a week, dry cereal was killing me! I took this puppy and was able to eat a full dinner and slept well! It's worth a try, oh and I used the store brand still worked great.

I may need to try Zantac. I can hardly eat or drink anything without getting heartburn at this point...It's terrible. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • I was taking Zantac 150 for a while, but when that stopped working well I got a prescription for Protonix.  I'm not crazy about it-- it definitely stops the hearburn, but it makes me really burpy.  Embarrassed  But it's a category B if that's what you're looking for.

  • I have been taking Maalox and am happy with it. Someone told me a trick that when the heartburn is really bad to take two and chew the first and the suck on the second. It works like a charm.

  • I had severe chronic acid reflux before becoming pg, and now it is worse.  Believe it or not, Mylanta has been wonderful for me.  Better than any of the Rx drugs I tried pre-pregnancy such as Protonix & Nexium.

  • I switched from Tums to Rolaids.  They seem to work a little better, but nothing works when I try to go to bed at night.
  • Zantac 150 2x/day w/liquid Mylanta inbetween works;  I'm on prescription Prilosec which also works

  • I take the generic prilosec!  It works really well.  Once in a while it gets so bad that even the prilosec won't touch it.  But that's usually after I eat something that sets it off (peanut butter, goldfish crackers or marinara sauce).
  • I've been using Zantac 150.  It's almost working -- I still have a little breakthru that requires a Tums or two, but it's okay.  I can't wait for this baby to drop, though.
  • Papaya enzyme. You can get it at a health food store or probably a vitamin store. You'll want to take it regularly with meals... before the heart burn starts.
  • Maalox Advanced has been working for me. I was using Pepcid Complete for a while, but it stopped working.
  • my doc said start simple and work up the ladder until you find somethign that works.  He said everything that's OTC is safe.  So, i started with Tums, then to Rolaids (soft chews), to Malox then Mylanta, and up to Pepcid and that's where I am now.  I take a pepcid in the AM and in the PM and it seems to work well.

I still use Rolaids/Tums for breakthru burn and it helps - I'm with everyone else, can't wait for this man to drop, I'd like my stomach and lung capacity back!

A few women on here told me Zantac 75, back in my second trimester and it was a god send.  My reflux was horrible even sitting up.
