Thanks, everyone! Based on my experience, anyone who will be taking the test should double-check procedures with the lab and the doctor's office. My OB's office told me to drink the solution and then have my blood drawn an hour later. No problem, I'm there 40 minutes after drinking the glucose.
After I've checked in and waited for a while, I ask, "Does it need to be an hour to the minute?" The woman at the desk says, "Yes, we draw your blood, and then you drink it, and then we draw blood again."
I said, "But I already drank it! That's what they told me to do!" She said, "Well, when did you drink it?" I look at my watch and say, "An hour ago." She says, "But when?" And I repeat, "An hour ago." She says, "It's 8:40 now." I said, "Yes, I drank it an hour ago, at 7:40."
Apparently it's fine, and some doctors' offices give out the instructions I got. But I had no idea that the lab had a different procedure in mind, so you might want to check and make sure everyone is on the same page.
Re: Glucose test
Ugh, I had to drink the drink with a lab tech as a witness. He literally stood there with a stopwatch to start counting down the hour. It was weird.
Good luck!
