Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Do you send your LO to a Preschool Toddler Program?

I'm just thinking about what, if anything, I will do this upcoming fall when DS will be about 20 months. There are a couple of toddler programs in my area for 18 months +, and I was wondering if others have done it and thought it was a good experience. I'm a SAHM, and I was only thinking of doing it a couple days a week.

Re: Do you send your LO to a Preschool Toddler Program?

  • DD is currently in a Toddler program (12 mo-23 mo starting in September so most of them are 2 now) 1/2 days.  She loves it and we have had no problems with it.  In fact we moved her from the 2 day class to the 5 day class she loves it so much.  They count, dance and sing, do the ABC's, color, learn to play (share) with others, read, clean up and a list of other things.

I had put her in it becuase I felt she needed to interact with other kids and it has been money well spent so far.

  • DD will start at a cooperative nursery school in the fall.  It is twice a week for two hours.
  • Ds goes to one. It's Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:30 - 12:30. He absolutely LOVES it and I'll be so sad when summer comes and he won't get to go anymore. He stays at home with our nanny when he's not there, so it's been a great way for him to get socialized around other kids. It's also helped improve his speech and vocalization (he's behind on speech skills). They read books, play in centers, go to the playground, make crafts and have a snack. He comes home exhausted every time and usually takes a 3 hour nap afterwards. It's been worth every single penny. If they have a 3 morning option next year, we'll send him 3 mornings because he loves it so much.

FWIW, he never, ever cried during drop off. He was so excited to be around other kids and get to play that he never even thought about being sad. Now when you tell him "Time to go to school", he grabs his backpack and runs to the front door.

  • DS goes to a Learning Center daycare program 3 days a week. The kids move over to the toddler room from infants at 15mos. and stay there until 2yrs 9mos. Then they move over to the preschool rooms. I like that they reinforce his learning so everything that we do at home isn;t forgotten.
