Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Does anyone have the Beaba Babycook?

I have seen a lot of adds for this product, but it seems kinda expensive. Does anyone have one? What do you think of it?

If you don't have one and make your own baby food what process do you use? Do you just use adult size steamer and food processor and store it?

TIA!

Re: Does anyone have the Beaba Babycook?

  • I steam/boil with a little water on the stove top, let it cool (save some of the water to thin the puree if needed), give it a spin in my miniature food processor, pour/scoop into ice cube trays, freeze, then pop out the cubes and store the frozen cubes in freezer bags.  Now that DS is eating thicker textures, I just mash with a fork and serve.  You don't need a fancy machine to make baby food...

This.  I used to use our Magic Bullet, but now use our Cuisinart Food Processer and it worksmuch better.

Also, realize that babies are on purees for only a short while. ;)

I freeze the purees in ice cube trays and then transfer to Ziplocks.

this - except I use and immersion blender... love it!

  • I don't have one, but my mom offered to buy me one.  I read some reviews that there's a part that's hard to see that gets moldy and can't really be cleaned, so I decided against it.

I just bake/steam and puree in a small food processor.  It works great!

  • I almost bought it... like I was ON MY WAY with money in hand, and I turned around and went to Bed Bath Beyond instead.  I was scared of having buyers remorse, and now I'm SOOOOO glad I didn't get it.

I realized that my rice cooker is a steamer.  DUH.  So, I really only needed a pureer.  But, now that I've been doing this for a few weeks, I've noticed that I bake much more than I steam.

Anyway, I bought a hand blender by Cuisinart... see link (not clicky, sorry) below.  Works like a charm and comes with attachments. $50, instead of the $150 babycook.

I try to make as much as possible in one batch, then I freeze in cubes, zip lock them and pop them out individually to thaw.

  • I received one as a gift and I really like it. There are instructions in the manual for keeping the parts mold-free so I just follow those and have not had a problem. And it's not just for purees. I cut up veggies, steam them, and give them to DS as table food. Quick, easy, works great. But I probably wouldn't spend $150 for one.

  • IMO that thing is a huge waste of money.  You can easily boil, steam, or bake the food and then just puree it in a blender or food processor.  I have the Cuisinart mini food processor, which is only $40 and works great.
  • I didn't get one because personally, I'm not comfortable cooking her food in a product that contains BPA. I also think it's pretty small and I like to make big batches of food at a time so I don't have to do it as often.

Fyi- it was independently tested, and has no traceable amounts of bpa.

Aside from that, I have to agree- it seems too small.  My friend has one, and loves it, but I like to make a large batch of food to freeze, and the Beaba Babycook wouldn't hold the amount I make at one time.

  • Thank you everyone! I think I got distracted by its "cuteness". I think I will just spend $50.00 on a new food processor instead. I like the idea of doing a huge batch over the weekend and freezing, rather than trying to do a small batch each night since I work m-f. Really, the price was making me baulk anyway :P
