Olivia is sick - need some quick answers...

symptoms:
fever when she sleeps - even for a nap.  The fever is upperbody only (head, neck, chest)
runny, clear nose
congested cough
cranky

ETA: super decreased appetite

Olivia has never had an ear infection, but she has been complaining that her left ear is hurting.  Last night was AWFUL.  She woke up every few hours just screaming NO! for like 5 minutes straight.  We would give her Motrin or Tylenol and it seemed to help.

1. Are these symptoms of an ear infection?
2. Would you recommend Benadryl for the nighttime to let her sleep? We cannot have another night like last night.  She slept in til noon if that tells you anything.
3. Would you take her to the pedi?  I'm not one to run in for every little sniffle, but the earache is bothering me.
4. Any experience with Hylands Cold n Cough liquid medicine? I gave her some of that.

TIA

  • I bet you $100 she has an ear infection.  I'd take her into Urgent Care tonight if she's still fussing about the ear hurting.  Ear infections can get really bad, if left untreated for too long.  I hope she's better soon!

  • If she is saying her ear hurts, YES!  And you really need to get antibiotics for it.  They get them from having a running nose.  M has had 4 or 5 of them and always when she has a runny nose.  I have never done benadryl, just do Motrin and keep hydrated. Hope she feels better! And sleeps better!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

  • I second brh. I would go to urgent care if you can. P has had tons and always started to feel lots better shortly after starting the meds. I hope she feels better soon!
