3rd Trimester

For those who failed the 1 hr glucose test

Did you eat normally the days before your 3 hour (besides when you get to the fasting part)?  Mine is tomorrow.  My doctor said I could just eat normally.  I have been for the most part, but I've been more vigilent about avoiding sweets and processed foods the past few days.  I wonder if anything makes any difference at this point - you either have GD or you don't, right?

Re: For those who failed the 1 hr glucose test

  • I was given a special diet from my Dr. after I failed the one hour.  300 grams of carbs per day for 3 days prior to taking the 3 hour.....

Something about getting your pancreas ready for the increased amount of sugar from the test.  I just retested on Friday, will get my results on Monday.

  • you will either pass or you won't, there's no way to pass it if you do in fact have GD.  Good luck!

This.  I was told I had to have at least 200 grams of carbs 3 days prior.  Not sure why, but it had a list of food I was to eat.  I ate according to that diet plan and I still failed the fasting and the two hour part.  Having GD isn't the end of the world, at least it helps me to realize how many carbs are in things.  I will actually probably continue with the low-carb diet once baby comes.

Sorry no paragraphs, bumping from my phone.

  • I failed on Thursday.  I take the 3 hour on Tuesday.  I was told for the 3 days before the test to eat normally but add a heavy carb to each meal.  The night before from midnight on, I have to fast, including water, gum, mints, etc.

  • I didn't eat any differently for my 3-hour and passed all 4 blood draws.  You do have to fast beforehand, so I don't think eating that well a day or so before wouldn't hurt but it probably doesn't really affect the results.

  • I was told to eat normally and just not skip any meals until the time I was supposed to start fasting. I passed the 3 hr.
  • I was told to fast the day of my 3 hour but nothing was mentioned about eating any different the day before.
