crawling on wood floors

My almost 10 month old DD has been caterpillar crawling for a month or 2.  She has just started going from lying down to sitting up and then to pulling up to stand.  I know that she physically can crawl on her hands and knees because she goes up on them all the time.  our entire house has wood floors and i'm wondering if she can't crawl on her hands and knees because it's either to slippery or it hurts.  does anyone else have wood floors throughout and have a kid who is/isn't crawling so well?  anything i can do to help?

thanks!

Re: crawling on wood floors

  • We have always had wood floors and DS had no problems.

  • Baby Legs were perfect for hardwood crawlers.

  • Our old house was all hardwood and neither of my kids had issues crawling on them. When friends came over some of their kids wouldn't crawl on it because they weren't used to of though. I think if it's all they know though, it should be fine.
  • The Bruz Wear Padded Pants with built in knee pads would be perfect for you..they're great for wood floors..i think a mom invented them just for this reason
  • We have all hardwoods and DS crawled on the early side. When he first started he had a little trouble in his jammies (fleece) because he would slip a touch, but jeans, khakis, bare knees, etc. were fine. Also, baby kneecaps aren't yet developed the way ours are, so even though it would hurt us to crawl on hardwoods all day, it does not hurt them, so no need to worry about that.

lol. I was going say exactly this.

DS army crawled for what seemed like forever, but he eventually got the hang of knee crawling. Our main living space is hardwood.

  • Good to know. We now have hardwood floors for this baby but had carpet for DD and DS.  I was just actually looking up jute rugs for one area because I was thinking the baby would need a padded area for playing.
  • We have tile and neither kid had a problem, although they both did an army crawl first.

  • My kids crawled fine on wood floors...I found bare legs are a lot less slippery for them than ones w/ jammies or pants on them.
