Using 9 oz bottles on a NB?

Hi - just curious if anyone skipped the 4 oz / 5 oz sized bottles and just used the bigger sizes from the beginning? I'm wondering if it is worth buying them when you will eventually need to size up anyway.

If it makes a difference, I hope to BF primarily and use bottles maybe once a day (so DH can take a night feeding) once BFing is established.

  • I think it is just personal preference.

I always like having a variety of sizes but in the long run you will need the larger bottles anyways so I think it would be fine to start and stick with them.

  • we bought ALOT of different brands of bottle to try we ended up sticking with avent and those are all 9oz.  shes up to 6oz now (and has been for over a week, atleast) so smaller ones would have been a waste.

  • It totally depends on the baby.  Some really do end up drinking a lot, so it is a waste to buylittle ones.  My son, though, only uses the newborn nipples (he doesn't like the bigger ones?!?!) so we are still using small ones.  He is EBF, though, and we maybe use a bottle once a week.
  • we've got the 5 oz bottles but with my first DD, we didn't use them for all too long.  I don't see any reason why skipping them altogether would be a problem...

  • we mostly use our 9oz bottles, even though she usually only takes 4-5 oz at a feeding (I mostly pump with 1-2 nursing sessions a day).
  • We never bought smaller bottles- we just figured that you can just as easily put 2 ounces in a 9 oz bottle! The bigger bottles normally come with faster nipples so we just bought the slower nipples- it was a lot cheaper than buying more bottles.
