Cereal before bed?

DS has quit purees. We're lucky if we can get him to eat anything off the spoon.  Yet, he doesn't quite fill himself up on fingerfoods (after his bottle of course.)

Lately he's started waking up at 5 am b/c he's hungry. We give him a bottle then and he goes back to sleep, but then he's all over the place with meals during the day.

I wonder if some cereal before/after his bottle in the evening would help.

I should add that he eats 28-32oz formula per day, 1 whole sippy of water or juice, 3 solids meals and 1 snack.

Any suggestions?

  • I would try that, or see if you can push his meals back/increase them.

  • Sounds like he's a hungry boy.  My guy is the same and he went through a phase about the same age where he needed a bigger bottle before bed so I literally gave him like 10 oz.  That seemed to fill him up enough.  How many oz are you giving him before bed?  Oh and also maybe add 1 more snack.

His bedtime bottle is 8oz.  Maybe 10 oz will do the trick. We'll give that a shot and see what happens. Thanks!

  • goodness, Mr appetite!!  LOL.  When are you feeding his last meal?  If he'll eat cereal, there shouldn't be any reason not to give it to him before bed.

  • I was worried about it being a ton but he really only did that for a few weeks.  I've been able to slowly reduce the amount back down to 8.5.  Hope that helps : )

LOL He's got a big appetite! I'd hate to see my grocery bill when he's a teenager!

I don't think he's eating as much fingerfoods/table foods as he ate when he would take purees, but I can't force him to eat either.  He usually eats his last meal before his bed time bottle at 5:00-6:00pm. His bedtime is 8:00pm.

That's our schedule too.  meal at 6pm, bottle at 7pm, and then I nurse him down at 8pm.  I actually give him some Cheerios if I feel like he hasn't eaten enough finger food.  He's so picky, it seems like he fills up on Cheerios every night......Embarrassed
