Asked my OB about pre-registering

I figured I should probably be pre-registered by now so last time I saw my OB I asked him when he thinks I should go do that. He said "Its not necessary" I told him I knew that, but have heard that its better to pre-register rather than show up while in labor and have to go through the paperwork. He seemed to get annoyed that I didn't really take "Its not necessary" as an answer and ended up flat out telling me not to pre-register but wouldn't say why not to other than it not being necessary. Has anyone else's OB told them not to pre-register? (I'm probably going to do it anyway, just for my piece of mind)

Re: Asked my OB about pre-registering

  • Mine gave me the packet at my first appointment

  • My OB never said if I should or not! But I had to go to the hospital a couple of weeks ago for a NST and when I got there I registered. The lady at the hospital said its always a good idea to be registered in advance. So if I were u I would pre-register anyways! What's the harm in it!
  • I don't know what to tell you mine asked me what hospital I wanted and then gave me the paper work for that hospital and in it  I had to pre-register
  • mine even told me I can do it online, which I couldn't do w/ dd.  I'm all set!  I'd do it anyway if I were you too.
  • I am with Kaiser Permanente and they have everything electronically available so that I don't have to preregister.  It is possible that your hospital has something similar going on, so it really isn't necessary.

  • My OB told me to pre-register but said if I didn't get to it that the hospital would have access to my records from their office. I pre-registered though. I just prefer for them to be ready for me when I get there...not sure i'm going to want to be filling out a bunch of paperwork whilst trying to breathe through contractions.
  • I cannot think of a reason why he would not want you to preregister.  I don't think it really effects him one way or another.  It really makes your life easier, I would just do it.
  • I got the paper work at my 12 week appointment.  They told me to go ahead and pre-register asap so that I wouldn't have to worry about it later.  His nurse asked me at my 24 week appt if I had done it yet and was quite pleased that I had.  It's odd that your OB doesn't want to save you some time and trouble... I can't imagine trying to fill out all that paperwork while contracting!

    This.

  • I would do it anyway... not something you want to be discussing when showing up in labor.  Really, it's not the Drs place to tell you what to do with the hospital.  Mine sent me a card in the mail with my name and a barcode type thing to swap that will pull all of my info up when I show up.

Also, giving them your insurance info now means you won't have to provide it later, and you will get an estimate of your out of pocket expenses if you have any.

  • I prereged as suggested by my md's and honestly it still felt like forever waiting in triage. Sure I could nod through confirmations of questions but it was not pleasant so I'd definitely prereg. Thanks for reminding me- I should do that tomorrow.
  • The practice I go to is attached to the hospital that all those OB's deliver at.  They share all their info with the hospital, so all we have to do is go in, give them my name and SSN, and pretty much just head up to L&D.  Had to do that a few times when I had my kidney stones Tongue Tied

  • My Doc told my to pre-reg. at my 6m appt.  I say go ahead, it will save you time when you show up to L&D.
