Well that answers my question. Target has a vicks vaporizer online for less than $20. I was looking through the reviews and one lady said she had a humidifier for daily use and then used the vaporizer when her child was sick. I guess that depends on how dry it is where you live and how much you run the heat. I'm not sure if I will change the one I have already registered for.
I have a humidifier for my sons room and I love it. My son has gotten croup 3 times since he has been born and both Dr's we have seen about it (one in Wyoming and one in Little Rock) both told us that Dr's are now switching their opinion on this from vaporizers to humidifers. They are now saying that cold is better than warm for this. They used to tell you to take the baby into a steam filled bathroom but now they tell you to not do that and if its cold outside you should take the baby outside (if you don't have a humidifier). I don't know on a day to day basis because my son never used one daily, but I always have one in his room because of croup and also because he gets terrible nosebleeds at night when its dry out. I would talk to your pediatrician about it though, because while I love Dr Sears, I think that new research has come out and a lot of Dr's are changing their minds about this.
A cool mist humidifier. Anything that produces warm or hot steam is VERY dangerous, and can burn the baby. Even the steam can burn the baby, not to mention when it gets a little older and can pull at things. I just read an article a couple weeks ago that a newborn was a few feet from it and the steam basically cooked and killed it...
Re: Vaporizer vs humidifier?
I found this article online from Dr. Sears...so I thought I would share, but I still want your opinions please
