High-Risk Pregnancy

random Lovenox bleeding...

Yesterday afternoon, I noticed I was bleeding from that morning's Lovenox injection site.  It was completely random, 8 hours after the injection, and had soaked through 2 tank top layers under my sweater to make a blood spot about 1" square.   It was still oozing when I discovered it.

I called the Dr's office, the nurse said to apply pressure and ice, and call back if it kept bleeding.  She also said they "might" need to do my levels again.  It did eventually stop but she didn't say anything definitive about getting my levels done again.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Did you end up with a lower dosage or was it a random one time occurance?

  • I haven't had anything like that, but I would go in to have your levels checked ASAP.  That's kinda scary.

  • I never had anything like that when I was on Lovenox last time I was pregnant. I'm on Heparin this time.

Agreed!  It's really scary to me...

I have a regular OB appointment on Monday, so I'm going to request the bloodwork, if the MFM office hasn't followed up with me by then.

  • I never had bleeding that bad, but I think there were a few times when I'd wake up with some blood on  my pants (I did my shots at night).  Like others said, and you said, ask for a recheck of your levels.  Call the MFM again and just say...hey I really am kind of worried about this, can we just check it to make sure.
  • Ugghh, I just had some more bleeding after my evening shower.  Just a drop or two, but still.  I'm definitely calling tomorrow and I'm basically going to demand to have my levels done again.  Hope to get it all sorted out soon!
  • I have occasional bleeding like this - but not 1 inch square.

Sometimes if I hit a vein or something with the shot it will bleed quite a lot and later in the day may bleed a little more - enough to soak through my shirt, but just a tiny circle about the size of a pencil eraser.

Doesn't hurt to get checked.  Good luck!
