What hospital will you be giving birth at?

hello,

I am trying to choose between Fairview Southdale and Methodist to give birth to my baby.  Where are you giving birth?  Do you have any advice?  Also did you choose your OB/GYN through recommandations?? Help!  Just a little overwhelmed....Thanks!!

If you could go off recommendations for finding your OB that's always beneficial.  However, I didn't but am happy with who I chose.  I would start with finding an OB you like and then see where they deliver.  They will only have privelages to deliver at certain hospitals.  Then go from there on getting recommendations for hospitals.  You can tour the hospital as well so you can get a feel for it.  But really it can be luck by the nurse you get the night you deliver.

My OB delivered at three different hospitals but since I live in Woodbury I chose to deliver at HealthEast Woodwinds.  I had heard great things about it and had a wonderful experience.  I will be delivering there again this time around.

I have gone to the same ob/gyn since I was 18 so it was easy to stick with them (obgynpa.com) I liked all the docs there.  They only deliver at Fairview Southdale or Fairview Ridges.  So I went to Southdale.  I had a scheduled c-section and had a really good experience there.  The nurses were great.  I would contact both of the hospitals and take a tour and see how you feel when you are there. Southdale as that is where my OB delivers. I found my OB thru my family dr. I go to OBGYN West - they have a location in Minnetonka near Ridgedale. I love them - they are really great.

    Good luck!

I found it easiest to start with an OB then narrow down the hospital based on where they deliver.  I'm going to OGI (Obstetrics, Gynecology and Infertility).  I usually go to the Maple Grove office, but they also have another office in Edina.  I LOVE this office, and all of the dr.s I've seen have been absolutely fantastic.  I plan on delivering at the new Maple Grove Hospital if I go into labor after 35 weeks, and Abbot NW if I go into labor before 35 weeks since they are connected to Children's Hospital.

I gave birth at Mercy, because that's where my OB practice delivers. I heard bad things about it, but my experience was quite different. It was very positive, I have no complaints. Especially when I arrived there not knowing I was fully dilated and baby was on his way out! The staff sprung into action very quickly upon that discovery and I felt very taken care of. And the following days in the hospital were also very positive. I will deliver there again.

I will be delivering at United, which I am kind of thrilled about since it's connected to Children's. We have a history of preemies in our family and it just gives me a piece of mind.

I am going with Woodwinds in Woodbury. I live nearest to Fairview Southdale, but decided to go with a midwife and a hospital that doesn't have such a high c-section rate.

I go to OGI in Maple Grove like Alisha and Kelly and will be delivering at the new Maple Grove hospital! It was the closest choice and so I went based on close ob/gyns and that is where they deliver.

I go to the midwives at University Specialists at Fairview Riverside and have been very happy with them!  I have a few friends that delivered at Riverside and all have had positive experiences.

I go to Park Nicollet Maple Grove, and will be delivering at Methodist. I have seen my nurse practitioner for years and love her, so I stuck with that clinic. I see her for every other appointment still.

I gave birth at Southdale and had a great experience.  However, Methodist is also a good hospital.  I chose my OB/GYN sort of at random and have been very happy with my choice.  I can highly recommend OB/GYN West.  They have offices in Eden Prairie and Minnetonka (near Ridgedale).  GL!

    Ladies,

Thank you so much for the advice!!  I am kind of new to MN and all of this advice is greatly appreciated.  I wasn't sure where to start so I have my initial appointment at Park Nicolett Carlson Parkway but I really would like to have input about the actual OB/GYN.  Once we begin telling our friends, I am sure that I will receive their recommendations :)  Thanks again!!
