3rd Trimester

Am I the only unprepared 3rd tri!?

I'm starting to suspect my DH and I are the most unprepared 3rd tri's, ever! I think it's a combination of being super busy at work and also being very cautious because of our history (TTTC 3 years). I keep not wanting to jinx anything! I'm so afraid something is going to go wrong and it'll just break my heart!

List of things we have yet to do:
- Order nursery furniture (oops.. only 13 weeks to go..)
- Clean out office so it can become a nursery
- Look for pediatrician

We also do not have any hand-me-downs from family or friends, so no baby clothes, baby stroller, or anything baby related! Total list of things we own that is baby-related? Four onesie outfits that we bought at an outlet store, that's it!!

Anybody else equally unprepared!?!? Crying

  • no...you're not the only one! If it makes you feel any better, I am 38 weeks. We just cleaned out our spare room last weekend, and it is empty. We ordered furniture, but will not have it delivered until the very end....like you we have a rough history and are afraid of jinxing ourselves. We just interviewed/chose a pediatrician this week.

We bought some bare basics, like onesies and our parents bought us some clothes; we keep them all in one place. I registered for gifts but asked our family not to purchase anything until after the birth. This weekend we are going to get the car seat.

Don't worry...you're not the only one, and you still have time! Even if it doesn't get done in time, LO won't know the difference.

  • I am right there with you. We have no money for furniture though so we are using a PNP we got at my sprinkle. Apparently no one told her it was a sprinkle, but I'm grateful! We got some clothes from that as well, but nothing else. Before we had 5 outfits like you and an empty room. Take you time... no rush. It doesn't have to be done before LO is here. Well the carseat is a MUST but that's just so you can bring LO home hee hee.

  • no need to rush...

i have a bassinet and thats it... and i just found my pediatrician

  • Me!!!! We JUST cleaned out the nursery this past week... meaning... dh pulled everything out of the room into the living room and wants me 2 get rid of some shoes and purses...which means I haven't even looked at it.... We just got a crib last week and dresser (from craigslist ..so it needs to be stained to match the crib).... I think I have.... maybe 7 or so onsies that I have been given as gifts..and like 2 rattles... We did call a pediatrician a few weeks ago..and they wouldn't do any tours or meetings until the new year because they were so busy with swine flu... Let's just hope we go to our due dates so that way we have time to get it all done!!! I'm hoping we get most our baby gear at the shower...

  • NO way!! We still have to

~ order furniture ( this weekend)

~ clean out room that will be nursery and shampoo the carpet

    ~ paint nursery

    ~assemble furniture

    ~ Decorate nursery

~ clean off all of DD#1's gear and get that situated

~ buy more clothes, wash clothes from DD#1 we'll be reusing

~ Get the other random stuff we need ( some more bottles, double stroller, new bouncy seat, new floor gym)

We still have PLENTY of time though so don't panic!

  • I have 6 weeks left and have yet to do any nursery things. I have the stuff I have just not done anything with it. The time will come when you will get anxious about doing those things. Its all about what you are ready for. also dont worry about finding a pediatrician right away. I met with one last week. there was a couple there that only has 3 weeks left in there pregnancy soo dont get worried just sit back relax and enjoy yourself. You will do things when you are ready. Also are you having a baby shower?

  • I wouldn't say I am equally unprepared however this is my to do list!

     * move in our new place tomorrow

    * set up the baby room and finish washing blankets ect.

*still have no changing table, crib set, ect which is fine since she will be in a bassinet for a couple of weeks anyway!

    * get carseat installed

*look for daycare and pediatrician, we are opting for inhome daycare due to the costs in our area!

*Finish up my last projects at work as I am working until I go into labor.

***Did I mention this is my first baby and I have no idea what's about to take place in my life, but I am very anxious and scared and excited all at once! Big Smile

  • Your not alone! We have nothing done yet!

  • We didn't begin anything until 3rd tri. Since then, we have done pretty much everything in 5 wks. It will get done, LO won't care either way how pretty their room is. And since we're team green, nobody has really bought us any clothes so I think we have 100 plain white onsies (not really) and about 5-5 outfits. And I don't want to buy clothes until LO is here anyway.

  • I just picked a pediatrician yesterday. Almost forgot about that!!
  • Well I think I'm worse than you. I only have a crib and won't be here until Monday and clothes. Nothing else. And I haven't even started looking for a pediatrician....
  • Dont stress yourself out! I got my crib at 30wks only bc we had giftcards from baby showers...But my LO has yet even seen his room which is a good thing considering all he has in there is a crib and a dresser due to us moving March 1st...We have a pnp in ur room beside the bed, hes either there or in his bouncy seat in the living room with me. I would def buy a couple more outfits, my LO goes through sleepers like crazy due to spit ups!  You have time...GL & enjoy being pregnant =)

  • So glad to read this post. I thought I was the only one not done. I have friends who have rooms done, stocked and decorated before 2nd tri is over. I have a lonely dresser in the nursery. It's painted and cleaned out but our crib is on back order for another week. But we have one cute t-shirt in the drawer and a mobile from my MIL and that's about it. Our shower is this weekend and we are going to see what we get and then start some shopping! I keep thinking I have more time but I guess I really only have 8 weeks and after my preterm labor this week who knows how long I have!!
  • You're doing just fine. I just picked out two pediatricians to decide between and picked out the crib (but it's not ordered, I'll probably wait until after the shower) and DH and I are just starting the nursery this weekend.

I think you are well prepared.

  • Don't worry... you've still got some time. I didn't really start doing anything until 35 weeks. Even if you don't have the furniture when baby arrives, I'm sure your LO won't notice. As for clothes, I've found I got tons at my shower about tons more in the last two weeks, just from people who wanted to get me something.

  • I am one week ahead of you.  We hadn't done anything until last week, when we ordered some of our furniture (not all) and set up an appt with a pediatrician.  We have basically bought nothing else (we have no hand me downs either) and are only now starting to look at day care.  We still have time!
  • i am a second time mom so doesnt really count, but we have NOTHING ready.  as a matter of fact we dont close on our new house until I am 33 weeks.  we will then go and paint in the room and set up our crib.  no idea on what bedding, color or anything.  (we are team green).

we have all the baby gear though from our son.

it will all come together!   the reason for doing it early is just so you know its done and you had the energy to get it done....b/c after the baby comes you are so tired!!! :)  good luck!

  • You still have some time.  I do have a crib and stroller which are both still sitting in their boxes waiting to be set up.

When I was told this week that I might not make it until due date due to high BP, I think that was when it hit DH and I that we need to get our sh!t in gear.

We finally picked a ped yesterday and hoping to set up the crib this weekend.  I do have some clothes already which still needs to be washed which I think I'll do after my growth u/s on Wed.

  • I ordered a basinnette (inside of a playpen) and the stroller with a carseat back around 30 weeks... between then and about 36 weeks, bought nothing. Around 36 weeks, I had a shower (that I got practically nothing useful from except for a bag of diapers and a few pairs of clothes that should fit him right away--everything else was for 6 months and beyond)... then my mom took me out shopping and we bought everything we needed (bottles, clothes, bath supplies, baby nail clippers, etc). I bought a swing around this time. My Aunt is planning to send me a bouncing chair.

But other than that, I have no nursery furniture. The only thing I really want to get is the changing table. The crib can wait because the baby is going to be in the basinette for a few months. I also plan to buy a monitor for when I move the baby into his own room in the crib. Then we gotta get dressers and whatnot still. So here I am.. almost at my due date without a lot of things.

Oh and I still haven't even thought about peds... I have a list of recommended ones from my OB so I'm pretty much just going to pick the most convienient one.

You'll be okay. Just try to take it all one thing at a time.

  • You have plenty of time! Relax and enjoy your DH.

Make a plan to do a little each week. If you have a shower, then you will get most of your items. But, heads up now because there is ALOT of baby clearance due to the end of the season so you can get some great deals. Stores are different than online too.

  • Thanks, ladies! I'm glad I'm not alone, but tomorrow I'll definitely go order that nursery set!!!! :P
