Poll: How often do you...

vacuum?

dust?

sweep?

clean toilets?

scrub the floors (like get down on hands and knees -- I'm not talking Swiffer)?

clean the baseboards?

wash windows?

wipe down walls/cabinets?

Our new house is vacuumed, swept and dusted regularly, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to keep all the nooks and crannies clean.  We over doubled our square footage, so there's a lot more to keep up with than I'm used to.

Re: Poll: How often do you...

  • We have a cleaner come every two weeks and she does most of what you listed. I personally do some of the other things throughout the year. Like I wipe down cabinets a few times throughout the year. Lately I don't get to do walls and baseboards regularly or even in the year. We have only been in this house 3 years this July and it was mostly freshly painted which is why I haven't had to do some of it.

  • vacuum? every other day

    dust? once a week

sweep? every other day or as needed

    clean toilets? once a week

scrub the floors (like get down on hands and knees -- I'm not talking Swiffer)? a couple of times a year

    clean the baseboards? never

wash windows? a couple of times a year

    wipe down walls/cabinets? as needed

I'm not really one to have a set schedule for stuff like that, I just clean when things are dirty or when I haven't done it for awhile.

  • we have someone clean our house once a week- dust, mops floors, vacuums, cleans bathrooms. Beyond that, I wipe down the downstairs bathroom once, and I vacuum probably daily...I have 2 dogs  that are always bringing in dirt, leaves, and DD is always leaving a trail of crumbs......

  • We went from a 1,200 sq ft house to a 4,000+sq ft house and I tried cleaning it all myself...the floors alone would take all day and all of my energy.  So, we hired someone.  Sorry I can't answer your specific questions.  It was just too much for me to keep up with AND take care of and entertain the kids, etc.  Maybe make yourself and cleaning schedule and do a couple of rooms a day or something and every other week or so do the nooks and crannies.  IDK.

  • vacuum? weekly

    dust? weekly

    sweep? daily

    clean toilets? weekly

scrub the floors (like get down on hands and knees -- I'm not talking Swiffer)? monthly, maybe.

    clean the baseboards? n/a

    wash windows? rarely

wipe down walls/cabinets? rarely, unless they really need it.

I just don't have the time to do those little things.  I find as long as I dust, vacuum, sweep and clean my bathroom weekly, my house looks good.

  • I clean the bathrooms everyday. 2 pt kids..gross.

Walls and cabinets are about the only thing that I seem to never get a handle on. We have someone come in and do that, the baseboards scrub the floors and the fans.

I vaccum the kids rooms every other day. We have 2400+ square ft so not big but it is a pain with the concrete floors and tile.

yeah I'd hire out more too! Jeez. I would love an extra 100 sq ft. Still bothering my DH to have the upstairs finished for the 2 extra rooms, game room and a bathroom.

clean the baseboards?  like once a year

wash windows?  beyond just windexing the inside?  I don't think we have ever.

wipe down walls/cabinets?  cabinets like weekly.  walls, once a month.

  • vacuum? Every couple of days

dust? Hmmm - not oftem enough

    sweep? see vacuum

    clean toilets? Kids bathroom, daily

scrub the floors (like get down on hands and knees -- I'm not talking Swiffer)? Every couple of months

clean the baseboards? see scrub floors

    wipe down walls/cabinets? as needed

  • We have a cleaning service every 2 wks. The only thing I clean is the kitchen counter, stove, and table, load and unload dishwasher, and clean microwave. I've never done baseboards or walls/cabinets. (Well, I've done walls in the bird room occasionally. They really need to be done again.)

  • We just got rid of our cleaning service to save up on money and DH and I came up with a monthly plan to chart out how to keep everything clean.  Basically we broke up the house into 4 weeks so once a month, everything gets a good clean and then we always do the wipe up type cleans as we go anyway and I run the vac weekly or every other week depending on the room.  Windows only get done in the spring unless they get handprints or other things like that.  Baseboards - not very often.  Walls and cabinets - when I see fingerprints or crayon.  I am trying to do the fridge every 3 months.

For example - week one is the Kitchen and bedrooms.  Week 2 is the bathroom (2 of them),  Week 3 is the dining room/foyer/hall and week 4 is the upstairs which is our TV room and office.  As needed is the guest room and bathroom.  The playroom in the basement really just needs vacuuming as it has no toys so I didn't bother to put it on the schedule.  I do a lot of stuff daily like wiping the kitchen counters and other stuff as needed during the month but this way I know that everything gets at least one good clean a month.

  • I sweep everyday, but I'm getting Roomba so I don't have too.

I don't do any of those other things.  Instead, I pay someone else to do it  every other week.  Booyah!
