Name - Cora
Due Date - 1/23
Date Placed on Bedrest - 11/21 31w
Type - Modified Bed Rest/ Restricted Activity
Why - PTL
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer- I would have had my house completely clean, set up, and ready to go for my baby shower on Saturday. I am now obsessing about how I'm not even close to being done. I'm fortunate that I'm now allowed to do some things here and there, but there's just to much to do and to little time.
Updates- Nothing really here! Just dealing with a severely pinched nerve in my right arm that is causing numbness in 3 fingers. Fortunately it does go away, but can come back if I move my arm incorrectly or hold it up for a period of time. I'm so tired of waking up 1-2 hours after going to sleep with my hand in pain. It feels completely numb and frozen. Ok I'm done whining now!
**I hope everyone else is doing ok, and progressing. Keep your LO's in as long as possible. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.
Lesley, can't wait to hear how you're doing, and if LO is still in. Your c-section is coming up quick!!!**
Re: Bed Rest Mama's Check-in- Friday
Name - Michelle
Due Date - 4/20
Date Placed on Bedrest - at 14wks
Type - Modified Bed Rest/ Restricted Activity
Why - Herniated disks in back
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer- I would have cleaned my house from top to bottom and taken my dogs on the best/longest hike ever! Other than that, my DH and I actually went the night I was getting put on BR and did our registry at 14wks! This is my first LO and he thought I would be sad if I missed the experience. I'm glad we did this. Now I can adjust it online, but I still had the chance to meander through the store with DH and look at things.
Update: Thankfully, last night did not hold any contractions for me. I'm hoping that the other night was a fluke! Today I think I'm going to attempt going to a movie. A friend is coming to get me and I have a handicapp parking sticker, so I'll be off my feet most the time. I'm super excited!
Hope all you ladies are doing well. Today is Friday and we've all made it a bit farther! Keep the hope that your LO's are cooking and happy(even though we may be going crazy!).
Name - Jennifer
Due Date - 4/16
Date Placed on Bedrest - 12/31; hospitalized overnight on 12/30
Type - Strict bed rest
Why - Hypertension; pre-eclampsia risk
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer- I would have had my house completely cleaned and the baby's room more complete. I would have had more lesson plans ready for my students and had things more organized at school. I would also have had the alternative state assessments my special ed kids have to take already written out and materials made, and I would have better prepared my principal and assistant principal for the possibility of me being on extended bed rest. I sort of had a feeling I would end up on bed rest because my bp was borderline before I got pregnant, but I really didn't think it would happen this early. Not sure what else I could have done.....
Update: My bp seems a little lower today. Although, I have been sitting up on the couch much less today, and I've been napping on and off this morning. Why am I SOOOOO sleepy all the time!? LOL! Hopefully the lower bp continues though.
Today is ticker change day! I'm 26 weeks today. Still too early for baby Sam to get here, but everyday is a gift. It's really amazing how quickly I went from wanting April to hurry up and get here, to being thankful for each day I stay pregnant!
Name - Boo
Due Date - 6/2
Date Placed on Bedrest - 12/14 -15 wks 6 days
Type - Modified Bed Rest/ Restricted Activity
Why - PTL, BH
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer- Work and finish the projects that is filling up.
Updates- Got an okay from my High risk OB to slightly increase activity, meaning walk at least 100 feet.
Name - Gina
Due Date - 2/17
Date Placed on Bedrest - 1/4
Type - Modified Bed Rest
Why - PTL
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer- I would have let my husband know what bed rest really is. He kinda doesn't get it. Since I just started BR he kinda still thinks I can do all the normal things, like food shopping, cooking, laundry. I tried to explain it to him the best I can but I don't think he fully grasps it.
Updates- After my appt today I was placed on stricter br. The dr doesn't want me up for more than a 1/2 an hour at a time with out at least 5-6 hours in between with my legs up. She said she wants him to stay cooking for at least another 10 days. Anything more she will be very happy. I have started to get some serious contractions (labor pains I was told) and now I have to be extra careful. I asked about the steroid shots to help mature his lungs, but she said since I'm over 34 weeks it is not recommended. I'm apparently at an in between stage. To far along for medication, to early to deliver.
I hope everyone else is doing well, and keep those babies cooking!
Gina - My DH is exactly the opposite. He says I'm in denial, and he yells at me for getting up. If I even go to the bathroom, he says "It sure seems like you're getting up a lot. I will tie you down to the couch if I have to." The other day, he got on me about putting my plate in the dish washer. Very sweet, but also very annoying at times
Gina....does your DH come with you to doc appts? Could you possible talk with your doc and have him/her explain to your DH EXACTLY the importance of you staying off your feet is? Or maybe you should just let all us BR girls at him...give us his email, we'll update the bugger! :-) Don't let him pressure you. You know your body and LO best. Stay off your feet and to heck with the laundry. The most important thing is to keep that baby cooking and you are in the home strech now! C
Could you call your Mom or another family member/friend and beg a favor? Maybe they could come over for a few hours to do a load of laundry, a bit of cleaning and cook and freeze some meals. We've had some help along those lines and it's been a Godsend. Good Luck to you!
And to put a smile on your faces ladies, I got Olivia's coming home outfit in the mail today! It's a little dress with leggings and a hat. Here is a pic:
Name - Lauren
Due Date - 3/23
Date Placed on Bedrest - on and off throughout pg, officially 1/4
Type - strict hospital bedrest
Why - IUGR
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer- I would have put away all my shower gifts and started to organize the nursery and I would have frozen meals--I had a whole list of stuff I wanted to cook and freeze before LO got here but now I will be lucky if I even go home before the baby is born
Updates- I had an ultrasound this morning to check my amniotic fluid levels and the cord blood flow. The nurse this morning got me all concerned b/c she said my fluid levels were high--turns out it was the cord flow that was high which I guess means there was more pressure but apparently I was still w/in normal range but just the high end of normal and after my u/s today they said it has gone down a little so thats good--im waiting for a PT consult to help me figure out what i can be doing to keep blood flow good and my muslces from atrophying while im on such strict bedrest and I am supposed to be having a NICU peditrician come do a consult and talk to me about what I can expect for when LO is here--on a positive side my hospital has been offering free manis/pedis to the moms on the special care ob floor so I got a pedicure done today which was nice to get a wheelchair ride down the hall for a pedi :-)
Name - Chelsea
Due Date - 2/16
Date Placed on Bedrest - on and off throughout pg, officially 1/4
Type - modified bedrest/at home
Why - PTL and shortened cervix
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer- Same as everyone else - clean like crazy! I think the nesting instinct has set in and I literally almost cried an hour ago because I couldn't get up and wash the door to the garage or the walls in the pantry. I also would have picked up some books or planned a hobby.
Updates- I've been pretty blah today. DH did open the blinds for me to see the snow. No contractions. Taking procardia every 4 hours is tiring. I hate waking up at night even though I don't have anything to do.
Oh Michelle I am so jealous you are going out! I really want to ride to the mall and be pushed around in a wheelchair just to see different faces. DH is trying to get me to go out to eat tomorrow. We'll see!
Name - Lesley
Due Date - 2/10
Date Placed on Bedrest - restricted activity/pelvic rest at 18 weeks; modified 12/10; hospitalized 12/16
Type - Hospitalized Modified bed rest
Why - Vasa previa/(possible) pregnancy induced hypertension
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer - I was actually knew when my hospital sentence would begin in theory. I wasn't prepared to deal with the restrictions in activity though. I nested around 24 weeks washing and folding clothes and the cloth diapers. We've had the car seat installed since then. I just try to not let my brain worry about the rest though it's hard at times. I would have definitely traveled more before the big restriction.
Updates - quiet today and just trying to make time pass...I'm a little stir crazy today
**Thank you everyone for the well wishes and good thoughts. You totally made my day yesterday!
Mandy, I'm so glad you've had some good days in a row...hopefully that continues!
I'm happy that there have been no changes for you, Heather! I hope you'll be approved to work from home.
Katie, GREAT JOB!!! Congratulations on making it to this milestone and hopefully you'll be able to keep going even longer!
I'm so so happy you got to go home, Chelsea!
Jennifer, I hope your BP evens out to normal soon! I'm a worrier too and it's hard at times with all this time to think not to but just try to keep yourself distracted (way easier said than done)!
Don't go overboard with the cleaning, Cora
and enjoy your shower!!
Lauren, you're in my thoughts! I'm so sorry...some days are better than others...sending you wishes for better days ahead!
I hope those cramps have disappeared today, Nic!
Keep hydrated, Michelle!**
Name - Nic
Due Date - 2/12
Date Placed on Bedrest - 11/24 - 28w, 4d
Type - Modified bed rest at home
Why - PTL/contractions
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer- I would have been more proactive on getting things accomplished, instead of thinking I had SO much time to get things done before LO arrives. I would have also been a lot more strict on our spending, just so when I'm out on leave or working PT instead of FT, I wouldn't be worried.
Updates- The cramps have mostly subsided today. I woke up this morning to a bad one, but it was mostly attributed to my full bladder. I emptied my bladder, took my terbutaline with a BUNCH of water, and laid down.
The nesting is starting to kick in, I had DH help me organize a few of the kitchen cabinets and move some stuff downstairs that we don't use that often. I sat down on the nursery floor and took the tags off of the NB & 0-3 month clothes so we can wash them this weekend. Also planning on getting my hospital bag together this weekend.
DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.
Name - Becca
Due Date - 4/21
Date Placed on Bedrest - 12/18 at 22w1d
Type - Modified Bed Rest at home
Why - shortening/"dynamic" cervix
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
Answer-I would have gone to register for my shower. I was being so cautious because I didn't want to register too soon in case something went wrong. Now I don't get to have the experience of going with my husband and looking at all the little baby things, and picking out cute outfits for my babies. I want to pick something cute for them to come home in, but I'm having a hard time finding stuff online that I like.
Fortunately, I hired a cleaning guy back in the fall when my morning sickness was making me gag over cleaning, so my house has stayed clean, and my husband is a great cook so I have been very well-fed.
Update- I had a cervical check yesterday and it's still short, but stable (and present). The doctor said to just keep up what I'm doing, if it doesn't change from week to week, I can hopefully go full-term. This is 35-36 weeks, which is 10-11 more weeks for me. I keep telling myself I can do it, I can do it... But I am definitely having my down points and I am just plain jealous of people getting to do things like go out to restaurants or travel. Or even just walk to the next room.
Name - Andrewl
Due Date - 3/23
Date Placed on Bedrest - 10/28 @ 19 weeks
Type - Modified Bed Rest at home
Why - possible Incompetent cervix
Question of the Day - Looking back, if you had known you were going to be put on bedrest, what would you have done differently to help prepare yourself or anyone/anything else?
I would have taken care of all of my assignments at work which would be impossible to do because I work at a law firm with too many cases and not enough paralegals to do the work. I would have registered and saved more money. (I don't have any short term disability coverage). I would have planned a schedule for each day and organized the house so that I wouldn't leave all of the work on DH.
Updates- I have not been on much since the hoiday but I am happy to say that I am no longer on bedrest but have been advised to take it easy and slow to begin with. Of course stay off my feet as long as possible. My Dr. said that since I made it to 28 weeks and my cervix stayed long, I no longer have to be as concerned about my cervix being an issue. He assumes the 2-3 cm opening is just my norm since the length stayed over 5 with exception of the one visit where LO was banging his head against my cervix. Dr. did say that because of the state of my uterus following my myomectomy in May, he does not want me to contract for fear of uterine rupture so he said at this point, if I contract and they can't stop them right away, he will give me the steroids shots and deliver 48 hours after the first shot. Let's hope that dosen't happen.
I started working again this week and have been trying to just work 5 hours a day but have not done a good job of leaving work when I say I would. I am going to work on this more because LO is more important than any job. Also DH went by this local outlet store for me and found a great crib on new years eve. I wanted to see it for myself so we went back on Saturday and I loved it. It is the Heirloom crib from JCP and we got it for $300 new. We also got a dresser and the mattress for the crib. DH really did a great job picking it out. That's all for now ladies. Let's all keep those babies cooking.
