Vinegar in a steam mop - can you?

Yes I could have been less Yoda in my subject heading but I don't care.

I know that the steam does all the cleaning but I'm just wondering if it's feasible to do a 50/50 water and vinegar. It doesn't say I can in the directions but it doesn't really say not to either. I can't think of a reason that it would actually hurt the mop but I might be missing something.  I thought it would help to make sure that I don't get calcium buildup also.

Re: Vinegar in a steam mop - can you?

  • my guess is no. vinegar most likely would alter the temperature at which the water gets hot enough to produce steam and that could screw with the mop. also there is likely some sort of residue involved beyond what you'd get with just water that wouldn't be good for the components either. it is designed for just water so i'd stick with that.
