HELP nap time issues!

Okay so my 13 month old has just started a crazy thing...background: Normally he takes two naps one for about an hour and then the second one for 2 hours...  Well this past week when I put him down for the first one he just cries through it-and then the second one he only sleeps for 30 minutes! So today I finally decide to just hold him out for the second one in hopes that he would just take one long nap...nope 25 minutes later he's up and crying, if I let him cry it just gets worse, he won't fall back to sleep.  What do I do!!!!!!?  I'm losing it because I just can't get anything done and I was used to these long naps and now I don't have any!  He sleeps 11 hours at the most at night... HELP, Please, thanks!

Re: HELP nap time issues!

  • Whoops we live overseas and I just realized it's really early over in the states...anyway help! :)
  • Loading the player...
  • Is he teething?  DS had screwed up naps when he was teething.
  • That's definitely possible...he has had his hand in his mouth constantly but it's not like he wakes up seemly in pain or anything but yeah I guess it could be keeping him from sleeping...hmmm
  • DS did that when he was teething too (hand in mouth and slobbering all over).  If it was bad, I gave him Tylenol.  That seemed to help.

    GL!

  • I have also seen a few signs that make me think separation anxiety because he cries for long periods of time when I put him down initially and he never did that before...and we just got back from a long trip and slept in bed with him and carried him in those carriers the whole time...like 10 days...I really don't know what I'm going to do!
  • This is exactly what is happening with us too.  I think it's separation anxiety kicking in.
  • What time did you put him down for his one nap? If you are trying to transition to one nap, I would suggest not waiting until his second nap time to put him down. He would probably be overtired by then. What I've heard from omther moms and what I've tried is to keep him up longer than his first nap, but not all the way to the second. Then, it'll take a little time for that one nap to get longer. Good luck!
