Job opportunity-WWYD???

This is an e-mail I just received from the director of my department (I work for a hospital and only go in for a couple of hours a week as of right now)  I wasn't planning on this happening so soon, was waiting for Allison going to Kindergarten before going back full time.  I also don't want to pass up an opportunity.  So torn.  ugggg

Hi Erin!

I know that you have done a tremendous job helping us out all the time in the government group when we needed you.  We certainly will be appreciating your help over the next several months due to everyone?s vacation schedule.

The reason I am contacting you is that I have heard that you ?might? be considering wanting to return back to work on a full time or part time permanent basis.   Is this true?  If it is true, when were you interested in making the change and would you be interested in working on our Health Lab accounts?   We are currently working on a project to centralize some of the activity around our health lab accounts such as billing and  follow-up.

If you are interested or have any questions, please feel free to email me back and we can arrange a time for me to give you additional information.  We can discuss this over the phone if that is easier for you.

  • What about just doing it part-time? It sounds like that may be an option from the email. Is DD in preschool? Maybe you could work during those hours?

She did say part time permanently, then when dd is in school maybe you could change it into full time? At least you'd have your foot in the door by then! GL with your decision!

  • She will be in Kindergarten in 1.5 years.  Maybe tell him you want to be part-time until then?  Or you can just see what he is willing to give you money-wise and make a decision then...tell him that you would consider part-time or full-time depending on the compensation?  And ask for more than you think you will get or if he makes an offer you should counter it.

  • I am going to send her an e-mail back telling her that I would like to set up a time to meet with her.  I have also been encouraged to ask her if I can work from home, apparently she is big on that also.  I am just shocked!  I just have to get over my shyness, and go for it!!!!!
  • I agree with the pp about going part-time for now and then in a year or so when your dc is in Kindergarden to go full-time. Also, is there an option to work out of your house on these accounts? or are they too confidential?
  • Yay!  Congrats - I can't wait to see what happens!  It doesn't hurt to meet with her to ask questions and consider all the options - and it sounds like you can be open/honest with her about your plans and that is even better!
