Did anyone that ended up on insulin start out on glyburide? My doctor just prescribed it and I've been taking it but, it's a catagory C drug and insulin is a catagory B drug so, I would think it would be better for the baby. I'm going to discuss this with my doctor and my aunt (she's a endocrinologist) but, I was just curious if anyone else out there is on Glyburide?
Re: GD- Another Med Question
I'm on glyburide 2.5 mg which is the smallest dose. My doctor said it doesn't cross the placenta. I had originally asked about metformin since I was on that for the first trimester and he said it does cross the placenta and that is why they start out with glyburide. I didn't want to do insulin since it's only my fasting number that was a little high (100-105) and I didn't want to over medicate on the insulin.
I also asked the pharmacist and he said that it is the lowest dose and won't affect the baby.
I once had a picture until the trolls showed up.

Exactly this. Insulin is already naturally produced in your body so it knows what to do with it and it doesn't cross the placenta to the baby. Gylyburide is a medicine and it can potentially affect the baby.
