2nd Trimester

dizziness- just called the doc

I need your opinion here, ladies. Monday morning while I was in the shower, I almost passed out. Ears ringing, seeing spots, couldn't stand up and had to sit down in the shower for about 5 minutes. I was also burning up. Yesterday was great but the same thing started to happen again this morning. After the shower, I was doing my hair and makeup (which only takes about 10 minutes) and I had to sit down 3 different times because I started to feel the same way. I was burning up again, but I had turned the water temp. down so I know the shower wasn't too hot. I ate breakfast and came to work. About an hour after this episode, I was standing in the office talking to a coworker and I started having a hot flash and feeling dizzy again. I actually had to stop the conversation and go sit down. I would think since it had been over an hour since breakfast, my blood sugar would have come back up if that was the issue. It also feels like it could also be my blood pressure dropping. Any thoughts? The nurse is supposed to call me back.

Re: dizziness- just called the doc

  • That happens to me when my blood pressure drops...hasn't happened to me since early pregnancy. Are you drinking enough water? Could be dehydration? Hope you feel better!!!

  • Well, I have been feeling really dizzy and lightheaded also. My doctor told me that the blood flow is so different and so concentrated now that it is very easy to feel this way. Mine also happens mainly when I'm getting dressed in the morning. He said to make sure that I didn't make sudden changes in position that I get up and down slowly. I also moved a chair into the bathroom so I sitdown while I'm getting ready and that helps...hope you feel better
  • sounds like your blood pressure is low.  My OB just told me to be careful because if you pass out you can really hurt yourself, but he didn't put me on meds or anything.  I've read that increasing your salt intake can help.

  • Glad you called the doctor... what are you eating for breakfast?  Are you getting any protein for breakfast or are you having cereal?  Are you drinking enough in the morning?

  • Def. sounds like blood pressure. When your hot your blood pressure drops like when your taking a hot shower or in a hot bathroom drying and fixing your hair.
  • I had a very similar thing happen to me, my midwife told me to drink more water, rest, and always have snacks on hand, i.e. trail mix and nuts etc.  It may be your blood pressure or even iron levels.

  • This happened to me this morning, I talked to my doctor and he thinks most lightheaded and dizzy episodes are caused my dehydration and needing to eat something, so after I put my head down on my desk for 30 minutes I drank a bottle of water & ate a yogurt, and I am feeling a lot better already! Hope this helps...
  • Your symptoms sound similar to mine when my heartrate spikes.  Try taking your pulse next time.  My heartrate will jump up to 140-160 bpm just standing up to put on my makeup (doesn't matter what time of day).  My bloodpressure is fine and it is not blood sugar related.  I'm waiting to hear back from the cardiologist on test results.  I am on modified bedrest right now b/c of it.  I can go out and do things occasionally, but only with someone with me in case I pass out.  Sorry you are feeling so bad, I hope you figure out what is going on.
  • Thanks for the advice ladies. I'm hoping it's just something simple, I guess we'll see.
