The other day I went in for a NST and the L&D nurse told me I looked to be about 36 weeks and I'm only 28. My dr. measured me and said that she wanted to send me down for an u/s Friday because my measurement is > date. Everyone in the office keeps joking about twins and I know this sounds so kooky but how could we not know already? Does anyone know if it's possible to not have seen a WHOLE OTHER BABY on my previous u/s? Does this ever happen? I haven't done anything for twins-just one baby. HELP. TIA

if you've already had an ultrasound, it's HIGHLY unlikely. especially if one that was far enough along to know what gender baby you're having. at that point, there would be two heads! not to mention more arms and legs than most babies have. :P

it's probably just the way you're carrying. are you short-torsoed? my sister had one baby and looked more pregnant at 30 weeks than i looked like with three!

We had an u/s at 9 weeks and didnt know it was twins.  We found out at our 12 wk NT scan.  When was your last u/s?

I agree with pea-kay.  It could also be that you have more amniotic fluid than most, which is why you're bigger.

my last u/s was at 18 weeks - I can't imagine them missing a WHOLE CHILD. everyone else is hoping for it and I love being a mother more than words can express but my husband leaves for afghanistan when the LO is 6-8 weeks old. I'm a nursing student and I have a toddler who will soon be two. I feel terrible even saying that I wouldn't be excited, and that isn't it, I'm just afraid. It seems like so much. I know God won't give me more than I can handle so I'll just trust that he'll give me exactly what I'm supposed to have. I'll update you all as soon as I get home from my U/S friday. My H is scheduled for Afghanistan as well, right when the babies are due.  I understand your fear, 100%, as I also have a 2yo.  When we found out it was twins, I burst into tears.

It's ok to be scared, it's ok to be completely not excited.  Although it's easier said than done, try not to worry or think too much until the u/s.  It won't do you any good anyways, and I find it hard to believe they could miss an entire baby.  Possible, yes, but I still have a hard time believing it.

OMG thank you so much! I so needed to hear that. It's kind of like being a part of the FRG, knowing you're not alone makes it a little easier. I just wish everyone would stop teasing me about it. I LOVE this/these babies already but I would definitely need time to get used to the idea ya know? and I can't believe that they would just miss a baby lol. like WHOOPS guess that wasn't your.....intestines?! hahahaha we'll see friday and I'll let everyone know. It's probably just that I have HUGE babies ( my first was 9 lb 2 oz. @ 38 weeks when I delivered due to PE/ high BP )

hahahaha yes we did do that, but you're right. I haven't eaten any differently or done anything I didn't do in my first (single ) pregnancy. If it is a possibility I would want them to be as healthy as possible. I'm not going to worry for now though-we'll see Friday and I'll handle what God gives me then. Thank you all . xo

Everyone carries differently.  Some women look more pregnant than others throughout their entire pregnancy.  I doubt that you could get to 28 weeks w/o them finding a whole other baby.
