Moby Wrap & Other Carriers for infants?

I saw the post below and was hoping to get some additional feedback for carriers that are good for infants as well. We have a Moby Wrap - we've only tried it twice so far, but Ella wasn't too happy. We tried the newborn hug and the cradle and she didn't like being put in. She loves being swaddled though, so we're going to keep trying. I'm not sure if we had it too tight the first time since I felt like we were struggling to get her in. We loosened it up, but she was still unhappy so I didn't push it.

I had also considered the hostlings. Is the BECO also good for infants at this age? Or any tips/suggestions with the Moby or carriers in general?

yes, the beco has an infant insert and I used it before Bryce was even a month old. I used it for walking outside to exercise. I carried him in the front and just made sure I supported his head as I walked.

We had the Beco and Caleb hated it.  I kept trying over and over with him in the infant insert, and he never took to it.  I finally sold it and got a Baby Hawk when he was 9 months.  He likes the Baby Hawk, but I'm not sure that he would have liked anything when he was little.  I think some kids just don't like to be carried like that.

When Ethan was tiny he preferred the Beco over the Moby (I have a knock off and I don't think it's as great as a real Moby).  I'm not sure if it was getting him into the Moby that he disliked or b/c it took me longer to get on (& I had to put him down to get it on).  Eventually he liked both.  DH used the Beco more than I did.  He wouldn't wear the Moby.  I didn't feel comfortable using a sling (we have the Peanut Shell) until Ethan was about 3 months old. 

I'm considering selling my Beco if you're interested.  It's plain chocolate brown and in excellent condition.

I'll be interested to see some responses too.  We have a babybjorn which DH uses and Jack loves right now.  We also have a hotsling and he hates it most days.  It may be I'm not getting him in there right because it honestly never feels comfortable.  I've contemplated either getting the material to make my own moby (really just haven't had the time) or putting out for the beco but I'm not sure how much he'd like either one.

I got the hotsling and never really liked it.  DD was fine in it, but I thought it was so uncomfortable and I was always worried that I would inadvertently hurt her while I was wearing it.  Although she was content, the position looked so awkward.  So I eventually stopped using the hotsling and didn't use anything until I could use the Ergo at about 3 months (I think).  Now that was a wise investment!

Cole loves the Moby, on one condition - his head is out.  He will NOT and never would, hang out in the moby if he couldn't see around him. Perhaps try that?

Other than that, we only have experience with a Bjorn (hated) and hotsling (hated).  Sorry!

Thanks for everyone's responses. Sounds like each baby is different, so it will be a matter of us figuring out what works for her.

Christina, I'm also wondering if the Moby is a matter of the time it takes to get it prepped and then getting her in. Half the time she is already fussy by the time I try to get her in since I had to put her down. I'll send you a message about the Beco, thanks!

Jen--when did you start using your Bjorn with Jack? My mom got us a bjorn from the fall consignment sale, but I haven't tried it yet. I guess I thought she still needed more of a nestled carrier?

I think at a little over 2 months on a particularly fussy day is when DH tried the bjorn with him.  Jack had really great head control from the start and was about 10 pounds and at least 23 inches long at this point.  Joe does put a folded up blanket behind Jack's head when he's in it just because he feels better that way.  Jack likes to be held facing out so he can see whats going on so that's probably another reason why he loves it so much.

Ella might be too small at this point but it may not be too long before she can try it depending on how you feel about her head control.  I think the directions say 8lbs and 21 inches.

I'd say give the moby a try when she's not already fussy, so she can get used to it. And it does get easier with practice! There were days where I never took the Moby off! I tried 2 different slings and I felt that I didn't have the right body type-ali was always squished. DH used the Bjorn a lot; I preferred the moby, and I think I'm going to order an Ergo here soon.
